Peace Behind the Lace Curtains

Last year we made several smaller changes around our home which I detailed in Adding More Grandmacore To My Home. One of those changes was putting lace curtains in all the windows across the front of the house. This included the living room, entry, and laundry room.

What surprised me the most about this particular change was how much it made our home instantly feel more peaceful.

I love the large windows and all the natural light they flood our home with. But there was something about putting lace curtains up that made everything feel different.

We still enjoy most of the natural sunlight, but we are also blessed with a peaceful coziness.

There is a beautiful separation between our home sanctuary and the outside world.

The change was so striking that at first I could literally feel my body relax when I walked into or by the living room, especially in the evening. Just looking at it was enough to impact my body.

Our home is our sanctuary from the world. We often talk about limiting the negative outside influences that enter our home via the television, computer, phone, or books.

But I’d like to suggest there is something powerful to a small physical boundary that reinforces that choice. Not just window blinds that block out the intense morning sun. But also something that reminds us that we are endeavoring to live a different life with different priorities. That we value beauty. That making a bit of extra effort is worthwhile.

That every physical item we surround ourselves with impacts us in ways we don’t even realize.

For me, it was inexpensive lace curtains that reminded me again of the power of the peaceful life I’m endeavoring to live.

Beautiful and heartfelt topic. I too am wanting to redecorate to go more soft, grandmacore as well. I need more simple beauty and lovely colors.

I have always had that warm memory of lace curtains, and have all of my grandmother’s curtains from the forties . Your expression of the loving boundry they create is so beautiful, and so true. Blessings in your change to find more peace and calm. Merri

      Hi Merri,

Things are cyclical so I wonder if we’ll see more lace and ruffly curtains in the coming years. Thank you for your kind words.
