If you are ready for some inspiring reading, here are five books by Grace Livingston Hill that might meet that need. These are vintage novels written by a prolific Christian author who sought to point people to the Gospel and their need of the Savior.
This selection of books features families who find themselves in difficult situations due to death, financial reversals, or illness. In each case, the young woman is challenged to love and serve her family. Along the way, she also learns more about faith in Jesus Christ and what He has equipped her to do for her loved ones in distress.
I’ve listed the vintage stories in alphabetical order. April Gold, The Honor Girl, and Re-Creations have long been favorites of mine.

April Gold (1936)
A mother, son, and daughter must make drastic changes when tragedy strikes. This story follows the difficulties and triumphs of the Reeds as their faith is stretched and grows. April Gold is a story about making difficult decisions, overcoming adversity, being a light in darkness, and pulling together as a family.
The Challengers (1932)
The Challengers are in dire straights. A father who is ill and a mother who is struggling means Phyllis must do whatever she can to help her family. As they go through these severe trials, their faith is challenged as well.
The Enchanted Barn (1918)
The Enchanted Barn is often named by many readers as one of their favorite Grace Livingston Hill books. It is the story of Shirley Hollister, a young woman who must find a way to provide for her brothers and sisters in the midst of challenging situations.

The Honor Girl (1927)
Elsie Hathaway is The Honor Girl at school and has a brilliant future ahead of her. She has no idea what has developed at home while she has been living with her aunt since the death of her mother. When she stops by her father’s home on a brief errand, her entire world is turned upside down.
Re-Creations (1924)
Cornelia Copley is devastated when her father abruptly calls her home from her beloved college. Re-Creations is the story of the life God called her to create for her family rather than the one she expected to live.
So there are five wholesome stories about faith in difficult times. I hope you find them inspiring and uplifting.
