Our Cozy Home No. 53

Happy New Year! I hope your 2021 is off to a lovely start. We still have all of our Christmas decorations up. For some reason I am in no hurry to put them away this year. I love all the cozy lights and am content to keep enjoying them. Maybe we’ll take them down this weekend.

We have new neighbors across the street and it has been so nice to see their inside and outside Christmas lights. The previous homeowners were a nice family, but they didn’t do anything for Christmas in the front part of their house. The new homeowner has her Christmas tree right in front of one of the living room windows and it must be covered with many strands of colored lights. It’s been so pretty to see each evening. It’s the little things that brighten our day to day life, isn’t it?

In theory, we’re back to homeschooling this week. However, I had a nagging sinus headache yesterday (that is continuing today) and Caroline wasn’t feeling well so we didn’t do any schoolwork yesterday and today isn’t looking good either. Hopefully we can begin tomorrow.

We received a gift card for Christian Book Distributors from one of our clients. I ordered The Story of the World Volume 3 to use with Caroline. I also ordered Proverbs – God’s Guidebook to Wise Living Bible Study by Warren Wiersbe. I haven’t used this series before, but wanted something from a book I’ve not done as a Bible study and from a writer I didn’t have to wonder about. (See my post: The Life Lessons of Warren Wiersbe, Rachel Held Evans, and Those Falling Away by Deconstructing Their Faith) I couldn’t preview it, but I almost always add on my own outside study and rabbit trails when I’m using a Bible study book so I will make it work either way.

David and I have continued to update the printables in the shop. If you have purchased any of these individual products in the past, you can download the updated version in your account area.

If you’ve never used a KWL before in your homeschooling, they can be a very valuable tool. I have an older post called Using a KWL in Your Homeschool you might find helpful.

  • All of the KWLs in the shop have been updated. (There are 20 of them on a variety of topics!)

We updated and expanded a number of the writing and notebooking pages that can be used for a wide variety of writing activities.

  • Chinese New Year (This one is a brand new product – See my post Chinese New Year Unit Study Activities {2021} for ideas)
  • Presidents’ Day (See my post Presidents’ Day Unit Study for lots of ideas)
  • I Love America
  • Thanksgiving

(December Notebooking Pages is going to be split up into a few different Christmas themes so we are still working on that.)

We also updated:

  • Presidents’ Day Lapbook
  • Polar Animals Lapbook

We’ve updated this product and expanded it a bit. As soon as the election results are final, we’ll make the final edits.

  • Inauguration Day Activity Pack

I also added a few things in the Homemaking section.

  • Grocery Lists 2
  • Journal Pages 2
  • Notes and Notetaking Lists 2
  • Weekly Menu Planners 2

And in the Christian Faith section I added:

  • Prayer Journal Pages 2

All of these items with a 2 at the end are my shop under All Products for Women.

That’s it from around here. What is going on in your home this week? Do you still have your Christmas decorations up? Leave a comment and let us know!

Interesting, it just now told me this post was put up, even though it was published over a week ago.
Congrats on getting all of that updated, I’m sure that was a lot of hard work. I’ve been slacking on updating posts recently, and I need to get back to that.

      Hi Ticia,

I’m not sure why things aren’t going out on feeds as soon as I post them. I need to look into that. Sometimes my posts show up in my Feedly right away and other times they don’t.

I’m out of my rhythm with posting and sending out an email so hopefully I can get back into it.

The updating posts is a never-ending project, isn’t it? I’ve done a lot, but still so much to do. I’d mostly like to write some new things. I have a long list if I ever get to it. I’m sure you can relate.

      Sallie

For 20+ years, I’ve been writing about following Jesus Christ and making choices based on what is true, beautiful, and eternal. Through purposeful living, self-employment, and homeschooling, our family has learned that freedom comes from a commitment to examine all of life and think for yourself.

I hope you will join me here where we discuss all of life each day.

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.

countenance: To favor; to encourage by opinion or words; To encourage; to appear in defense (Websters Dictionary 1828)
