Happy Monday! As we do each day, David and I were watching the local weather during breakfast when the meteorologist said something about the coming Memorial Day weekend. I was like, “What? This weekend is Memorial Day?!?!?!?” I feel like I have lost all track of time. I see the date each day as I work, pay bills, etc. but the last two and a half months are a total blur.
I don’t know if you are struggling with it, but we’re struggling with balance overall and specifically keeping Sunday different. It’s something we’ve always struggled with since we started missing so much church due to health, Caroline’s needs, etc. But it’s been extra challenging during the pandemic. We have been absolutely swamped with work for which we’re thankful. But that has meant homekeeping things have spilled over into Sunday and then we get no break. There is a reason God gives us a day of rest and I can tell you from first-hand experience that we skip it at our own expense.
It’s also challenging because where I live (Michigan) we still have virtually no freedom. Saturday morning we went out for a ride as David was going to run into Lowe’s for a couple of quick things while Caroline and I stayed in the car. When we got there, the parking lot was fuller than I have ever seen it. Ever. There must have been 300-400 people in the store and garden center based on the number of cars. We immediately left.
The previous time the three of us went for a ride, we stuck to the pretty back roads and country. It was relaxing and refreshing. This ride was different. Caroline and I both came home depressed after seeing everything shut down. She and I have rarely been out in the past two months so it’s a stark experience for us to leave the coziness and cheerfulness of our home nest. We all decided we will stick to driving in the orchards and such until things are more normal (whenever that may be).
Anyway, I always try to be honest when I write here. I don’t put up a fake sunny appearance. I’m weary. Really weary. The situation both nationally and on the state level (Michigan) has taken a toll on me lately.
But I keep going because life goes on and responsibilities don’t go away just because you are tired.
There are some new things coming up. I think there will honestly be something new here every day this week. It’s just that busy right now!
So on to my homemaking goals this week. And then I hope you will share yours in the comments.
Goal 1 – Get everything done that needs to be done (laundry and cleaning mostly) by Saturday supper so I can have Saturday evening and Sunday to rest. Honestly, this is all I want. To get some balance back into our life.

All I can say is…..I hear you, and I’m sending love, from one locked down state to another.
I think my governor is trying to give your governor a run for his money in terms of who can be the biggest tyrant. Yours is still winning, but mine clearly wants that title.
This week I’m planning to do some painting and to bake things to freeze until they are needed.
I got a lot of things done last week: painted the toilet seat, deep cleaning the shower, big batch of baking, and even some yard work.
My heart breaks for your state. I think about you and your family everytime I see a headline and wonder how you’re hanging in there. Praying for you guys.

Thanks for your kind words. I’ve really tried to not say too much about it on here. But it is getting to me (and my family) and I’m not going to lie. I’m a homebody by nature and have also spent extensive time at home over many years due to health issues. We’re not overly concerned with paying our bills right now. We’re kind of the “best case scenario” for dealing with this. If this is getting to me, I cannot imagine what it is doing to people who have lost their jobs, can’t get through to unemployment after WEEKS of trying all day, and who are in less favorable personal circumstances.
Anyone who would think to cast a vote for a Democrat this fall whether it is for president, governor, congress, or dog catcher must be out of their freaking mind. All it has taken is one progressive Democrat to get hold of power in this state at the right time and she has basically stripped us of our freedoms, Constitution be damned. Every single one of these Democrats running would do the exact same thing to every other state and this entire country if given half a chance. Anyone who doesn’t believe that or understand that is either grossly uninformed or seriously deluded.
I truly hope people are paying attention to what is happening in Michigan (which I have chronicled at length in the forum) because it is distressing to live through this and see our rights being slowly stripped away on top of the blatant corruption in Washington D.C. that has been exposed. These people would take away all of our rights if given any chance at all. You do not want to live in a state or country with someone like this woman running things.

I pray for you too every time I am reminded of what Michiganders are enduring now. I’ve all but turned off the media at this point, but still battling frustration from the fallout.
We are going to change the beds and clean the bedrooms this week Today we packed away the Winter slacks and brought out the Summer ones. We have been changing the curtains and cleaning the rooms. We have thrown out a few things that were not needed any more. Here in New York things are pretty tight and closed. We do wear a mask when we go out. Marion has asthma so she is in a high risk. We only go out to mail letters. It is only a block and a half walk. We have our groceries delivered. We are homebodies so we usually do not go out much. We are reading and we brought put some games and puzzles to do. Hope you and yours are doing better in this lock down. God Bless.

I’m very glad Texas is slowly opening up. I was in a Zoom call with small group leaders in our church last night (which I was late to because I forgot about it), but they talked about how small groups are struggling with how to start meeting in person again when some people don’t want to/can’t meet in person.
I’ve been worried about y’all up in Michigan. With how tight it’s been locked down either everyone is going to completely ignore the lockdown, or when it’s opened up, they’ll swarm it all.
As to my goals, I had a revelation yesterday and I’m going to do a variation on batching. I’ve been trying to do a little bit of everything each day, but that has been resulting in me not getting anything done. Instead I’m going to work on one project all week long and hopefully gets LOADS of stuff done during that time. That’s my hope at least.
Goals for the week:
1. Write loads of posts (and only posts, not any of the other random stuff)
2. Mop downstairs
3. Figure out summer plans. Hopefully.
