This is kind of a catch-all post of some Cal Newport related things I’ve been reading, watching, and thinking about.
First is his new book Slow Productivity: The Lost Art of Accomplishment Without Burnout. I’ve barely started it so I can’t offer any kind of review. I will say from interacting with his materials in the past, his target audience is professionals and academics, not women at home or homeschool moms. That said, I can tell there are still valuable bits.
Quiet Revolt Against Social Media
Related to the book is this recent podcast/video of his which I found interesting. (Disclaimer – “True self” is not a Christian idea.) I recommend watching the first 33 minutes.
I don’t have the time today to do a write-up about this video. However, here are some things I jotted down while watching it. So much of this I’ve written about in the category Old-Fashioned Blogging.
Distributed Trust Model
Serendipitous Spread
Individual Trust
Curation By Humans
Blogrolls
Blog Hops
Link Ups
Bloggers already gave all this up for social media

Also the answer to the question about LinkedIn is interesting. It’s not only about LinkedIn but social media in general.
