Caroline and I are both longing for the cooler, rainy days of fall. I’ve looked wistfully at the fireplace many times the past week, knowing that we won’t be able to use it for probably many weeks yet. We’ve been doing our best to combat the relentless sun, heat, and humidity with little things like closing the blinds and turning on twinkle lights, playing my favorite thunderstorm track on YouTube, and visiting the autumn aisles at Hobby Lobby. I’ve never been a fan of summer and wilt fairly easily, but Caroline really dislikes the endless sun. It wears her out physically and mentally. We don’t want to wish away the weeks, but we’re ready to turn the calendar page this week and know the next time we do so it will be September.
So here’s a little peek around our home!
We have talked off and on for a number of years of doing two things. One, making Miss Suzy’s treehouse. Two, buying the bungalow dollhouse at Hobby Lobby and making it like the house in Bunny Bungalow, one of our favorite books.
It’s a cute little house inside and out.
Caroline really needed a new project to keep her busy for the rest of the summer so we decided to purchase the bungalow on Saturday. It’s not exactly the same, but will suit our purposes.
David and Caroline will assemble it and then I’ll get involved with the decisions regarding the painting and decorating parts. Bonus: I will get many quiet hours alone in the office on the second floor while they are down in the art area of the basement working on the bungalow. I’ve had little extended introvert time this summer for a variety of reasons and it is starting to get to me. (Hence, one of the reasons there have been no new podcasts in weeks.)
Upcoming this week is a review of this Timeline Trio product from Home School in the Woods. I was so excited to get picked to do this review and the product did not disappoint!
This funny little tree sits in the corner of our family room. Twinkle lights are not just for Christmas! They make us happy all year long.
If you have read my blog for a very long time, you might remember many years ago I shared a photo of one of my dream houses in the area. It is a darling yellow historical home that was charmingly situated. I loved to drive by it because it was just so cozy looking. Well, on our way home from church yesterday we went by it and saw that it was for sale. Even better, they had an open house scheduled for yesterday. So we went home, ate lunch, and then drove back to walk through it.
The house was built in 1838 which is very old for around here. The front part of it was a post office at one point and it was also a stop on the Underground Railroad so it is designated as a state historical site and also qualifies as a national historical site. Anyway, it was an item to mark off my bucket list to see the inside of the house. It did not disappoint.
I received a review copy of I (Heart) Art by The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It’s a delightful small book with over 150 different pieces of art. The book is arranged by categories including:
- Art
- Play
- Sports
- Music
- Singing and Dancing
- Reading, Writing, and Drawing
- Animals
- Family
- Locomotion
- The Country
- The City
We’ve enjoyed looking through the book and discussing the variety of pieces that are completely new to us.

We had the CUTEST pair of Robeez black and white saddle shoes for Caroline when she was a baby. We got compliments on them EVERYWHERE when she had them on. They were so cute. I still have them packed away. 🙂
I am waiting for Fall and cooler weather. I cannot stand the heat and sun of Summer. We have our air-conditioner on practically all of the time. When the temperature hits 90 degrees even the air-conditioner is not that cool. I have so much more ambition in the cooler weather. Love that picture of you at age 3. I, too wore saddle shoes as a child. Have fun with Caroline and David making the house. It is cute. That house you visited sounds so nice and interesting. I’ve been thinking about fall, too, although I love summer so much. I love the way it’s a different schedule than the school year, and I love being in the water–rivers, lakes, pools, whatever I can get to! And I love the fresh berries and the fireflies and driving places in the evening without it being pitch dark. I will miss my summer dreadfully.

Isn’t it interesting how different people like different seasons? Caroline and I feel more alive each day now that the days are getting shorter and there is less sunshine. I can see the difference in her now that it’s starting to get dark earlier and the worst of the summer sun is over.
