If you have a piano, you know what it is like to watch a professional piano tuner work. It’s a long process of individual steps, each one building on the others. Tiny adjustments are made at each step. This one is loosened and this one is tightened. He continues on across the entire keyboard until each note sounds just right alongside all the rest. When the tuner is done, he plays music to hear the entire set of keys and make sure they sound correct to the ear.
Simple living is a lot like that. It’s a matter of constantly fine-tuning what you are doing. It’s trying out this idea to find it works brilliantly in your life. It’s trying out another approach and realizing it isn’t a good fit for what God has called you to do. Making changes and adjustments is a part of life. Unlike my piano, none of us ever arrive at a perfectly-tuned life that needs no further tinkering. God will always have something to work on in our lives and we’ll always be surrounded by new ideas, opportunities, and inspiration. Our calling is to keep tinkering for the good of our loved ones and the glory of God.
