Online Art Classes For Beginners

Caroline’s favorite learning topic is art. Her second favorite topic is art. And so on. She’s my creative, imaginative girl. When I had the opportunity to check out Sparketh which offers online art classes for beginners, I thought this would be a good opportunity for her to explore! I am always looking for ways to better homeschool my creative child and this seemed like it could be a good fit.

I received a Sparketh membership in order to complete this review. I was compensated for my time to write this review. All opinions are my own and I was not required to write a positive review.

Online Art Classes For Beginners

Sparketh offers online art classes for beginners. Depending on the skill level and interest level of the student, Sparketh would seem especially well suited for later middle school and early high school. Highly-motivated younger children with an interest in art could also use it. Caroline is ten and she did fine with it, but she is advanced for her age in this area.

The first course Caroline tried was Drawing a Cartoon Panda.

After that she tried the Colored Pencil Praying Mantis Course.

You can see that each course consists of multiple videos. Each video goes into detail regarding the focused terms and skills for that course.

These are screen captures from the videos showing the instructor modeling the skills while also explaining them.

Caroline worked on her drawing using both the videos and the guide picture she printed off as part of the course.

And her final drawing. I was impressed! David (who is a professional graphic designer and web designer) said that Caroline is naturally gifted when it comes to perspective. She did NOT get that from me. LOL!

There are literally dozens of classes available on Sparketh. The content includes topics such as perspective, proportions, painting, drawing, etc. I believe there is plenty there to encompass an entire year of “art class” for a homeschooled student. It can easily be self-directed for a student which makes it great for the mom who would like to get a little of the direct instruction off her plate.

The course content is very good. The techniques are covered in-depth so even a novice will be able to follow along and learn during the process. The one complaint Caroline had about the videos was that sometimes the sound quality made it challenging to hear what the instructor was saying.

If you want to check out Sparketh, you can see them on their Sparketh website and you can also follow them on Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram (@sparkethdotcom).
