I’ve Finally Found What Completely Wigs Me Out As A Mother

It isn’t the diapers.

It isn’t the spit up. (Caroline rarely did this anyway.)

It isn’t anything food or feeding related.

What truly wigs me out is when Caroline DRINKS THE BATHWATER.

She’s just started doing this recently since we bought her a new bath toy. It is this kitchen sink thing with all these little parts to play with. She absolutely loves it. But it has a couple of items that can hold water and she keeps trying to drink it.

This is beyond blech.

It is turning my stomach just thinking about it while I’m typing this.

Okay, how is that for transparent?

wow, that over dirty diapers and vomit?! lol! I think having my daughter touch public things, like at McDonalds, Wal-mart, etc. gross me out. I can’t hardly stand to think of the germs lurking around….I especially hate the grocery shopping carts!!!!

I take it she hasn’t done the take-the-dirty-diaper-off-during-naptime-and-paint-the-crib-and-closest-wall-trick with the contents yet? 😉

The bathwater thing bothered me with the first one, but she survived so I let the other two do it.

Sorry, Sally, but I’ve definitely got you beat on this one. My (now three year old) son used to do this, but it was when we lived in China. You can’t DRINK the water in China… it’s not safe. Everything has to be boiled… and yet, there he was, and he would drink it…

We tried to stop him, but of course, when he has a cup and you think he’s going to dump it on his head but instead he drinks the creepy (already dirty) China (contaminated) water, well, THAT’S when the grossness takes over. 🙂

Ok, so what about when your 18 nmonth old, swirls his toothbrush in the pool of water in the sink that has accumulated in the drain (we have a slow drain) and then pops the toothbrush back in his mouth…? UGH!

Hahaha! This is an awesome post! While Liam still isn’t old enough to do things like that, I think back to a story my darling Mother in Law told me about my brother in law when he was about Caroline’s age…

He had just added a ‘candy bar’ to the tub, and while FIL and MIL were frantically trying to get my husband and his brother out of the water, my MIL realized that there was a bite taken out of said ‘candy bar.’ She said that she panicked and started crying, “Tell Mamma you didn’t, please tell Mamma you didn’t!” My brother in law grinned, a big brown, icky grin……

    Now THAT’S gross. 😉

I have the bathwater pet peeve, too. My two youngest kids will try to sneak, because they know it’s wrong, and I know they egg each other on to disobey. What really gets me is when they suck on the washrag… yes, spine-chilling.

Hi Sallie. Like in China, you don’t drink the water in the Philippines either! But Josh tries to at almost every bath, and thankfully has not gotten sick yet. I have a friend who bathes her son in distilled water because of this problem. She obviously has money to burn… 🙂

Yup totally with you there, EVERY bathtime is interspersed with me telling my little squidge (age 3) “stop drinking the bathwater!!”.

She went one better the other day. She popped into the nursery (UK school for toddlers – they start early here) toilets. She decided the seat was wet so carefully wiped it with some toilet tissue…and then put it in her mouth! “Argghhhh!!! Bleuugghhh!!” I said – and scrubbed out her mouth with soap…poor little thing.

I thought my little one was the only one to do that. What a relief!!!!! He’s only been sick once, and he’s 2 1/2. Maybe that has something to do with it LOL.

Jenny, maybe you have a point! ha-ha!! I’ve been trying to hang my hat on the theory I read somewhere that kids who live in dusty houses have fewer asthma and allergy problems than those who live in white glove worthy houses… maybe there’s hope for my kids after all.

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.
