Easy and Inexpensive Pizza Dough in the Food Processor Recipe

My parents bought me a Cuisinart Food Processor for Christmas a few years ago. The main reason I asked for the food processor was to try the pizza dough recipe in Amy Dacyczyn’s The Complete Tightwad Gazette. We like pizza and I wanted to find a good and quick dough recipe. I love it!

The recipe is basic and easy. I top it with our family favorites – Muir Glen Organic Pizza Sauce, pepperoni, green olives, and mozzarella. YUM. It even received the “Caroline Seal of Approval” which is no small feat!

So here is the recipe, slightly adapted by me.

Easy Pizza Dough in Food Processor

Ingredients

  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup warm water (105 to 115 degrees F)
  • 1 Tbsp (or package) of dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 cups King Arthur unbleached flour
  • 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

Directions

  1. Preheat over to 425 degrees.
  2. Combine 1/4 cup warm water, yeast, and sugar. Wisk briefly to dissolve the yeast. Let stand about five minutes until bubbly.
  3. Place flour, salt, and olive oil in food processor. Process for 5 seconds with steel blade.
  4. Add yeast mixture to the food processor and blend for 10 seconds.
  5. With processor on, slowly add the remaining warm water through the feed tube. Add until the dough forms a ball and the sides of the bowl become clean. Continue processing until the ball goes around approximately 25 times.
  6. Turn dough ball onto a greased pizza pan. Cover with a bowl and allow to stand for 10 minutes.
  7. Spread dough on pizza pan. Add sauce and toppings.
  8. Bake at 425 degrees for 13-20 minutes. Pizza is done when crust is lightly golden and cheese is melted.

Enjoy!

I read this recipe and thought, “Doesn’t she let it rise for a while?”. I read it again and can see that you let it rest for 10 minutes. For some silly reason this just floors me. The recipes I have always have a first rise. So I am going to try this recipe on Saturday! Thanks for the post!

So how did it turn out? I liked this recipe because it was so quick. 🙂

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.
