Our Cozy Home No. 20

Happy Monday! This post was supposed to go up on Sunday, but I was simply not able to focus this weekend to sit down and write much. I had so much nervous energy that I spent most of my weekend cleaning and organizing.

Usually I add some chit chat to the weekly post, but I’m going to write a separate post about adjusting to the situation today so all the news from around our home will be there (Cheerfully Adapting in a Coronavirus World).

So homemaking goals for this week? Let’s see.

Goal 1 – Wipe down all the doors (a carry over from last week)

Goal 2 – Keep working on the basement. I’ve made some really good progress so even though this goal keeps popping up in various weeks, it is because it is a big project. But I am working on it.

That’s it. I have many work goals to tackle which is good. The more I keep my mind busy with work, the better.

What do you have planned this week in the homemaking realm to keep things peaceful and cozy?

I finally got the second pantry cleaned out!
With the extra food I’m keeping to not have to go to stores quite so often, means I need to be actually organized.
    With that in mind:

    1. Clean the primary pantry, this is where we keep the food we use on a regular basis.
    2. Supervise the kids cleaning the library and movie room.
    3. While they do that, I’m going to be working on purging/cleaning the school room some more.

      Hi Ticia,

We did a big pantry clean our and organization as well. We had gotten lax regarding writing the expiration dates on the front of packages and cans so they are easy to track. We got everything organized and only found a couple of things we had somehow lost track of and missed using.

I’m guessing by the time the quarantine is over, there are going to be a lot of clean garages, basements, attics, pantries, and the like. LOL!

I am not eager to get back into doing yard work, but it is time to do some–a little at a time.

Well, on the bright side, you have a yard. We were talking about people quarantined in high rises and apartments who can’t go out in the yard or deck or front porch. I think that would be really tough.

But, yes, yard work is a huge time suck. LOL!

    Hello everyone;

Thank you for sharing you week with us. Tomorrow, Christians will be meeting for a live on-line time of prayer for each of you (Canada, United States, and around the world). There will be people from around the world praying and lifting each of you up to our heavenly Father. Our loved one at the care home in in lock down. They will be so fine; they are the most content person you’ll ever meet.

Gold Goal – being present with and loving on my dear ones. TLC for heart and tummy, hee hee!
Goal 1 – continue my year bible study of the old and new testiment.
Goal 2 – make recipes from the “pantry”. IP Pork chop stew and … We were able to purchase some dry goods for the coming provincial shut down. Things are a bit of “crazy” bender at the stores but people seemed to have settled some. Schools are closed till fall, our province is still in early monitoring. We’re being asked to limit contact and stay home. I’m praising Him because I’ve spent most of my adult years being content, 8-), and loving each new day that I will be with my loved ones, 8-).
Goal 3 – wipe a door and shelf each day.
Goal 4 – study Hebrew/Music History (missed a few days this past week).
Goal 5 – sort the cold room and place the emergency dry goods in one area Just a bit scatted over the years.

      Hi Birdie,

I’m late responding, but those sound like great goals. I hope you were able to make some progress on some of them.

        Thank you Sally.

The sun is shining, it will be just above freezing, and we’re all doing just fine. My week shifted slightly because I did a few things that were not my normal projects. Tomorrow I’ll be back to my regular goals.

    1. I have a “catch all” wooden box of very full of paperwork that I periodically set aside a time to tackle. This seems like the perfect opportunity to do that so that’s my plan for tomorrow afternoon.

    2. I am needing a few more hands on deck from my “people” this week so the kids and I have been collectively baking as well as peeling/slicing/prepping veggies to have lots on hand, etc. This is just ongoing – not one particular day really but it’s been helpful.

    3. We have a DVD version of the Easter movie Risen that we haven’t made time to watch so we plan to get to it tomorrow night.

      Hi Erin,

We have a bunch of shredding we need to do so this will be a good time to get that done as well.

Any tips you would like to share re: peeling/slicing/prepping veggies and such?

I had two goals for the week and I didn’t do either of them. I’m chalking this last week up to a coronavirus adjustment week. I didn’t even write up my weekly to do lists in my planner which I do religiously every week.

I could say more, but I’ll just save it for this week’s new post.

Kids got the library cleaned, but I haven’t checked the movie room.
I did not make much if any progress in the schoolroom, BUT I did get the pantry cleaned. That was a huge deal, so many mostly empty boxes.

        Hi Ticia,

I’m guessing a lot of people discovered surprises when they got into their pantries to clean them out and organize them. David was telling me of a thread on Facebook where people were sharing the oldest things they discovered. One woman had Cream of Tartar from 1988. LOL!

Wow! I remember when we moved my Mom 15 years ago, it was fun packing up her pantry and her house in general because the last time she’d moved the kids from the youth group packed her, so they packed some weird stuff.

Hello. Is dehydrating worth the effort? I can’t can like I’ve been doing over the years, and I’ve had to stop gardening. Any tips for “sit down” gardening?

      Hi Birdie,

We have a dehydrator and have used it in the past. I think it can be a helpful tool for some people. I dried herbs and other things. It’s honestly been so long I don’t remember. I gave it up when I started developing scent sensitivity and it seemed like everything I put in there bothered me. I haven’t started it up again since. There are books and I’m sure tons of information online about dehydrating practically everything.

But thank you for mentioning it. I’ll have to revisit it.
