The goal of my website is to help you create a life of peace, understanding, and joy for you and your loved ones. This is the theme in The Cozy Life Library, the free gift I give when people subscribe. This is continued in the core resource I created and continue to add to – Creating Your Cozy Life Planner and Guidebook.
We now find ourselves in what can only be described as a momentous time in history. This is now a rapidly developing situation that has the potential to become a full-blown crisis in some (or many) parts of our country.
So the question I ask is how do we continue to create a cozy home filled with peace, understanding, and joy in the midst of this?
I’ve written about The Cozy Life in Difficult Times. That post is full of positive and encouraging information and links. I wrote there:
It doesn’t matter if the difficult times we face come from within our home or without. During difficult times, a cozy life is exactly what we need.
- We need a life of peace with purposeful rhythm, organization, and routines.
- We need a life of understanding with strong relationships.
- We need a life of joy that includes simplifying our life to that which brings value to our lives.
This is still true, but what we are in now is much more than a difficult time. We need to reassess where we are for the sake of our loved ones and our own well-being.
When I started writing the Prudent & Prepared series in the forum last fall, I had Pandemics & Quarantines on my list of topics to cover. It was far down the list because I knew the likelihood of experiencing these circumstances was low. I also knew that even writing about some of these topics would raise eyebrows like I was some kind of nutty fear monger.
And yet here we are.
If you haven’t developed a plan for creating a cozy life for you and your loved ones, I hope you will jump in today. Ideally you’ve already been working these recent months through the steps I outlined in the Prudent & Prepared Topics. If you haven’t and are ready to start, here is what I recommend.
1. Subscribe to my mailing list and receive The Cozy Life Library.
2. Get a copy of Creating a Cozy Life Planner and Guidebook. It contains a great deal of information that will help you. (If you already own it, be sure to download a new copy in your account area because we added the 2020-2021 academic year calendars. The calendars now run from January 2020 through June 2021.)
3. Begin going through the individual posts in the Prudent & Prepared forum. The forms that are mentioned in the forum posts are all in Creating a Cozy Life Planner and Guidebook. I thought about highlighting a few posts to skip to, but really the posts all build on each other. It is worth taking the time to sit down and read through all of them so you get a big picture before you start making your plans.
4. Watch my videos in the Coronavirus subforum. You will get a crash course in understanding what is happening.
You might say, “I don’t have time to do all that.” That may be true. You may not have time. But you need to make time. The ideal time to deal with all of this was months and weeks ago. We’re now to the point where things are happening rapidly so you need to act rapidly (but thoughtfully and deliberately).
Hopefully we do not end up like Italy with the entire country being shut down. But if that is going to happen, it will probably be in less than ten to fourteens days based on exponential growth models. Everything should be shut down already. Every day makes the crisis worse. Every day you wait increases the chances that you will not be ready.
If you have children, have a plan for how you are going to take care of them physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I talk specifically about how to deal with all of this with children in the Prudent & Prepared forum.
I hope you are praying for our leaders. I cannot imagine the amount of pressure they are under to sift through information from so many sources and make decisions that will impact the physical, mental, emotional, and financial health of so many tens and hundreds of millions of people. I told David I am thankful we have a businessman who loves the American people as president and a Christian vice president who is a former governor heading all of this up. It seems Providential to me that we have this combination of leaders at this time. They are not perfect, but I do believe they are doing their best.
I don’t have every answer for every situation someone will face in the coming weeks. I don’t have all of the answers for my own family. I pray and try to do the best I can. But I have laid out a roadmap over the past several months that can help you do a better job of being ready for whatever comes next. I didn’t know that this roadmap would become so helpful so soon. But it is there. I hope you will use it.
Make the most of the hours and days you have right now.
The best time to prepare was last fall. The next best time was in January. The next best was in February when I started suggesting that you take this seriously. Then in early March, I asked people in my last video to stop dinking around and get it done because I truly believed the time was getting short. If this thing continues as predicted, it will seem like nothing is happening until it absolutely explodes on us. Then it will be too late.
There’s no more time for putting it off. If you have been in denial about this, I hope you will face the truth. This is happening over the next several weeks and could extend for many weeks beyond that depending on how seriously the public takes this. The only thing we don’t know is where it will hit the worst, who it will hit, and how badly. Some areas of the country may be relatively less impacted. Others will, in all likelihood, be crushed by it.
For the sake of your loved ones, I hope you are ready.
