Our sweet little Peanut is finally here with us!

Caroline Elisabeth was delivered by c-section yesterday, September 28 at 12:13 p.m. She weighed 8 lbs. 8 oz. and was 21 inches long. She has lots of hair and is cute as a bug in a rug! 🙂

Caroline Elisabeth means “a joyous song of the fullness of God” and we think that describes her perfectly. We are both completely in love with her and can hardly believe she is ours to keep. 🙂

What a day it was. We arrived early at the hospital to make sure that Sallie’s glucose levels were maintained and would not bottom-out before surgery. Our surgery was right on schedule, but it did not go as well as we had hoped to experience. The spinal block didn’t take as the doctors had intended, so the later part of the procedure became very uncomfortable for Sallie as she started to feel what was being done. General anesthesia was given to finish closing Sallie up, and she spent the rest of the day very tired with a harder recovery than expected, not getting to hold Caroline as much as she had hoped.

But Caroline is here and we praise God for a safe delivery. We’re enjoying this cute little girl that God has graciously given to us. Especially when we were beginning to wonder if having a child was part of God’s plan for us!

Sallie and I appreciate how much you have supported us with kind words and prayers. Keep praying for a good recovery for Sallie, and for the change in our lives. This is just incredible.

We look forward to sharing more pictures and stories in the days ahead!

Congratulations to you all! She’s so lovely. I love the names as well. We had considered both Caroline (after a former pastor’s wife) and Elisabeth (after my grandmother) for middle names and Amy (after Amy Carmichael) for a first name for a girl, but, alas, we had all boys. 🙂

Sally, I’m so sorry the surgery didn’t go as planned — I can only imagine what it must feel like to have the anesthesia fail at a time like that! I hope the Lord will grant you quick and uneventful recovery.

    Have fun, you three!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!

She’s so cute!! (I’m sorry the surgery was hard. :()

My first daughter is named Elisabeth with an S, so I love that, obviously.

Is Caroline pronounced with a short or a long I sound in the last syllable?? Inquiring minds…have seen both pronunciations!

Hope you recover quickly and well — God bless!!

She is beautiful. Love her name. I’ll be praying for Sallie’s recovery and your getting to know each other period. I had a c-section with my baby – it slows everyting down a bit. Be patient and loving.

    Hey Sallie,
Congratulations to you and David! I’ve had you on my mind the last few days and been lifting you up and will continue to do so. She is beautiful and I know will thrill you both and enrich your lives more and more as she grows.

I hope you have some help and can recover and get some rest… there’s nothing quite like a new baby to delight and exhaust you, all at the same time! Hope you have a thrilling first few weeks together as a new family of THREE!

    Blessings!

    Mazel Tov!

    L’chaim! (To Life!)

There is a Hebrew tradition of saying a blessing when something good happens. There are 2 of them-one for when something good happens to you personally, and the other one is for when good happens to someone else.

This is known as HaTov v’HaMetiv – Blessing the One who does good. The idea is taken from Psalm 100:5:

For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Now for the blessing called the HaMetiv:

Barukh attah Adonai eloheinu melekh ha-olam, hatov vehametiv.

Blessed are you LORD our God, King of the universe who is good and who does good.
