My Pregnancy So Far (Because My Life Consists of Nothing Else Right Now!)

My, how time flies when you’re pregnant! Actually, time was flying before I was pregnant, too, so I guess it is just life right now! Well, in some ways time has flown. Like how many days have passed since I’ve really done any serious blogging. On the other hand, when I think about wanting to know boy or girl, time is just dragging!

I’ve been starting to feel better the past several days. I’m still really tired and queasy in the morning and usually don’t get showered and dressed until after lunch(!). That is LATE for a morning person like me! But I just started week 10 so every day that passes makes me more optimistic that things are going well with the baby. I have my next ultrasound on Tuesday and I hope to have a picture to post! I know you can’t see much in those pictures, but like any first time mama, I’m gonna share!

Since I’ve been feeling a little better, I have been cleaning off my desk and catching up on my emails. I’ve done fine with keeping up on the critical stuff, but everything else has been left to slide a bit until I’ve felt better. God in His graciousness also kept clients from calling me when I was feeling the worst. Now that I’m starting to improve, clients have been calling! I’m trusting that I won’t have a serious relapse of morning sickness when I need to be working in the coming weeks.

I haven’t had a lot of cravings, but a few. Early on (even before I realized I was pregnant!) I was craving IC Mochas from Panera. Two and three weeks ago it was mashed potatoes and gravy. (But that is one of my favorite foods ANYTIME so that isn’t really a big surprise!) About a week ago I was craving Chinese so we got carryout a few times. This week it was Bugles, that really healthy snack food (ahem!). And lots and lots of ice water.

I haven’t felt like cooking at all so we’ve been coming up with creative ways to eat. May I just mention at this point that my husband, David, is A SAINT. He has done all the grocery shopping for the past six weeks or so. (Just looking at the weekly sale flier to make out the list made me queasy. I couldn’t imagine walking through Meijer, surrounded by food. YUCK.) He has also done the vast, vast majority of the meal preparation. I actually do miss cooking though. I am so looking forward to the first week I feel really good so I can make all of our favorites that we haven’t had in weeks.

A kind soul at church brought a package of Preggie Pop Drops on Sunday and gave them to David for me. (I haven’t been to church in weeks and weeks.) Those things are amazing!

Today was the first time we actually looked at BABY STUFF. We had to go to Office Max and Hobby Lobby for a few things so we walked over to Burlington and went through the baby department. Gee, do I want a girl!!! There are just toooooooo many cute little girl outfits!!!!! I keep hoping girl, but thinking boy. Probably just a way of not getting my hopes up. But, as I told David, maybe God wants us to raise up a godly young man who won’t be a bonehead in his attitudes towards women and will bless some woman someday! But I’m still thinking PINK!!!

We’ve briefly discussed baby names, but haven’t spent much time on it because it seems kind of pointless when you don’t even know what you are having. I have to say that it is hard to find names though, especially after having been a teacher and just being older. Most of our family members and friends have multiple children so there are lots of names “taken”. And after being a teacher, a LOT of names have memories associated with them so it makes names unappealing. I’m not into trendy names and I don’t want my child to be one of a dozen -insert popular name here-. I like the fact that I have a unique name and I want that for my child as well (without being outlandishly out of date). We have a front runner for a girl’s name, but no idea for a boy. We won’t tell anyone the name until after the baby is born. That way if people don’t like it, too bad for them and they probably won’t say anything at that point. I don’t want to run names by people and have them go “I don’t like that name” and then choose that name and remember that they didn’t like that name. So the name will be a secret!

About the only thing I’ve felt like doing the past few days is cross stitching. I thoroughly enjoy it so I’ve been working on a Christmas stocking for the baby. After so many weeks of feeling like I have accomplished NOTHING, it is nice to put it down at the end of the day and see something actually accomplished.

Blessings to all!

It is lovely to see you on here–you’ve been missed (though perfectly excused, of course)!

Thanks for posting the update…I did enjoy to read though I haven’t ever met you or even “known” of you for very long.

Hoping all continues to go well!!!

You are very wise not to tell anyone what baby’s name you have picked out. When we had my son’s name picked out we had some mishaps when we mentioned it to some family members and it left a bad taste in my mouth for awhile. It’s amazing how opinionated people think they can be when it comes to naming your own baby.

Hopefully you’ll feel better in a few more weeks. That first trimester can be rough.

Sallie, Names are sort of hard to put down sometimes. We spent a lot of time choosing a perfect name on our last baby and after an emergency delivery, and small crisis, we looked at our son and said, to each other, the name we picked just won’t work. Looking at him: we both decided on a totally different name and we have always felt since it was the best choice. Sometimes babies come with their own names!..Pam

I say name your kid whatever you want, regardless of whether or not the name is used by another family member. There are too many of us now to worry about not repeating names :). If you like a certain name, use it. It’s your child, you can name him or her whatever you please.

Hi Sallie. The “cravings” part of your post made me smile. When I was pregnant with our first child, I craved STEAK. My husband lovingly informed me that I would have to find a less expensive craving!! But speaking of Panera- and you did, in your post- have you tried the IC Green Tea? Sounds disgusting, but is very refreshing for those hot summer days. Oh, wait, I’ve lived in Michigan and I forget: y’all don’t get hot summer days until July-August!!!

It’s all coming back–you sound pretty normal for this time of your pregnancy. I was so nauseated that the grocery store smells made me sick–to this day, I can’t walk past the fish dept. in Publix without having lots of memories….
We did not tell the name or sex of the baby–everyone was so mad at us….But as a result, we got lots of diapers and wipes for the baby shower.
I wanted a girl–badly–but God gave us a sweet baby boy. And boys are super cuddly, sweet, and fun too. We named him John Knox and we call him by his middle name…it fits him, has great meaning and history, and nobody else that I know of is named Knox except for the mayor of Greenville SC. 😉 I don’t like made up sounding names, or really trendy names….plus it beat my husbands 1st pick: Montgomery Whitaker…I have no idea where that one came from.
I still want my girl though…maybe the next time around.

What really stinks is when you decide not to tell anyone the name (you don’t claim the name)and then someone takes both the first and middle name you picked months before your baby is due:) It wasn’t even a popular name! “Lucy Elizabeth” That happened to us, luckily we had another choice…hopefully, we’ll be able to get through one more family birth in April without this one being taken from us too. We really thought hard about changing our minds though and claiming our name. We decided to take our chances. Something has to be a surprise!

I am so glad to hear that you are doing better .
My pregnancy is so long ago, but I never felt sick during the entire time. But I remember loosing weight in first three months – not sure why.
You are saying you have your ultra sound soon. Do you want to know if you are having a boy or girl? I didn’t and we decorated the room so it would go with either one. Oh, when I think back to the room – it was so friendly. Blue, little pink, yellow …

I felt tired and queasy with both pregnancies. I read or heard somewhere that whatever hormone makes you feel sick also helps prevent miscarriage. I didn’t try to go find out if that was true or not, because it made me feel better about feeling bad!

Also, everyone said that after the 3rd month, the sickness would go away. Well, mine lasted through the end of the 4th month with BOTH our kids. This was depressing both times, but I felt a lot better about it when carrying our second because I wasn’t expecting to feel better until month 5.

Also, being fairly short, I was pretty miserable again starting around month 7. (In an unscientific survey of a few of my friends, short people seem to be more unhappy pregnant people in general.) But the end result sure is worth it!
