Little Mommy | Homeschooling with Cozy Books

There was a time when all three of us could quote the entire text of The Little Golden Book Little Mommy from memory. When Caroline went through her baby doll phase, she wanted to read this book and look at the pictures all of the time.

When I picked the book up off the shelf to write this post and started reading it aloud, David and I remembered much of it with only a little prompting. Little Mommy just has that sweet sing-song feel to it that makes it memorable.

Little Mommy

Little Mommy begins:

This is my house and I am the mommy.

My children are Annabelle, Betsy, and Bonny.

And so begins the daily life of the little mommy through taking her children outside to play, doing the dishes, hanging the laundry out to dry, having a friend to tea, teaching her children the ABCs, making dinner, stories, bathtime, and songs at bedtime.

This is a sweet little book of traditional stay-at-home mommy life – caring for children, home, and hearth – seen through the eyes of the 1960s when it was published. Daddy drives a car into the city to work. When one of the babies is sick, the doctor comes to the house. The little mommy wears a dress, tights, and shoes. It truly represents a different era and approach to family life which some people will appreciate and want to share with their children or grandchildren.

Little Golden Book Classic

Little Mommy is a Little Golden Book Classic because it is, truly, a classic book. It’s also part of Homeschooling with Cozy Books because it reflects the joy of a family life in a love-filled home.

For 20+ years, I’ve been writing about following Jesus Christ and making choices based on what is true, beautiful, and eternal. Through purposeful living, self-employment, and homeschooling, our family has learned that freedom comes from a commitment to examine all of life and think for yourself.

I hope you will join me here where we discuss all of life each day.

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.

countenance: To favor; to encourage by opinion or words; To encourage; to appear in defense (Websters Dictionary 1828)
