Our Cozy Home No. 19

Happy Sunday! I’m thinking of moving this weekly post to Sundays because I’m also moving my newsletter to go out on Sunday afternoon or evening. For people who like to organize their week on Sunday, they will have it then. For people who take a break from email on Sunday, the newsletter will be waiting for them in their mailbox on Monday morning.

The past few weeks I’ve been in exactly what is outlined in my post Understanding Why Your Creative Child is Lazy. In this case, it was me and not my child. There are four stages of creativity outlined in that post:

  • Preparation
  • Incubation
  • Illumination
  • Verification

I’ve been stuck in this process for about a month. I’ve been stuck with regards to a lot of things regarding writing, writing blog posts, product creation, etc. When a creative person is in the midst of this, you can’t force it. You can find other things to do and keep busy. You can rest. You can discuss things with people. But you cannot force the “Illumination” stage to come upon you.

Thankfully, I reached Illumination and Verification last week. LOL!

Seriously. I was able to start moving forward rapidly starting last Thursday and it feels so good to have all that pent up creative energy released. It’s all been simmering there (Incubation) and I could tell it was. But my mind simply would not or could not pull it all together. And then just like that – BAM. It all comes together, is verified, and I move forward.

This was also a good experience to remind me (again) of what my creative child is going through when she’s just not “doing anything” creatively. She is. It’s simply not pouring out of her in a visible way.

So, all that to say, I’m setting basic homemaking goals this week because I’m all-in on other stuff I’m working on in addition to homeschooling. I also have a homeschooling product review to write this week and am full of other ideas.

So here are my goals.

Goal 1 – I’m going to circle back around to working on my cleaning up the basement goal. I haven’t worked on it the past two weeks so I’m going to get back to that.

Goal 2 – Clean doors. Inside doors, outside doors, sliders, storm doors, etc. All the doors get a freshen up this week!

So what do you have planned this week? If you need ideas and inspiration, be sure to check out all the ideas in my shop under All Products for Women.

I hope to go through some things that are not worth keeping and throw them out. I want to get back to my learning Latin. I also want to do some cleaning.

      Hi Marilyn,

How fun that you are learning Latin! I took one year in high school, but don’t remember very much. Is there any special reason you are learning?

      Hi Birdie,

So Marilyn is learning Latin and you are learning Hebrew. There are some amazing ladies around here!

Any special kinds of recipes you are working on?

Easy Hamburger Casserole (dry corn bread mix was in the freezer, jar of salsa/onion/tomato soup from cold room, last cooked minced roast from last years butcher, ketchup, eggs on hand), a slightly unhappy green pepper. Yeah, all from the “cupboards”!
Tomorrow will be a roasted chicken (good sale price), potato/carrot/new onion, stuffing and cranberries. All from the “cupboard”.
A pizza. All ingredients on hand.
Homemade Tomato Soup. All ingredients on hand.

I’m trying to finish re-upholstering the chair I’ve been working on.

I’ve been trying to do some major decluttering before summer starts.

Also, the garage needs some attention.

      Hi Peggy,

It sounds like you have a lot on your to do list!

Do you still have snow? Ours is just about gone. A few tiny little piles here and there. I’m not ready for spring, especially after the tornado season kicked off in Tennessee.

We still have a little snow, in the shady areas. April and May are still winter in my book, from living several years in the U.P.

I did finish the upholstery on the chair. I worked just a few minutes in the garage, but I also did a few hours of very necessary work in the basement.

I moved some house plants to a location that is less accessible to the toddler, who likes to dig.

I’ve been working on getting a lot of things done because I have a deadline ahead of me–a new baby due at the end of May.

          Peggy,

A new baby! Did I know this? I probably did and had forgotten. That’s so exciting. Do you know what you are having or is it a surprise?

I forgot to come back and comment on MY OWN POST on MY OWN SITE.

The combination of full moon, time change, and pandemic outbreak took a lot out of me last week. LOL!

Goal 1 – I did a lot on this goal of straightening up the basement.

Goal 2 – I did not work on this. I’ll move this one forward to the new week.

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.
