President Trump has been discussing Greenland since at least 2019. This conversation might have come out of nowhere for people who weren’t paying attention, but it didn’t.

There is the infamous Trump tweet from 2019 where he brought it to people’s attention.

So why would Trump want Greenland (and Canada)?
