Two Months Old!

Today Caroline is two months old! She had her two month appointment with the doctor and had her first round of shots. She did very well. She cried a bit, but settled down more quickly than I expected. David and I were fine with it even though the nurse warned us that the first ones are usually really hard on the parents.

She’s still a big girl. She’s measuring in the 90th percentile for her length. This explains why she is growing out of her one piece outfits at an alarming rate. I can see two piece ensembles and dresses will be in her future in increasing numbers. She’s also ahead of the curve in terms of interacting. She had a nice animated conversation with the doctor today, showing off her smile and her range of vocal inflections. He said she’s well ahead in this area. I suspect that’s the natural consequence of having two parents who love to yak. 🙂

I took these pictures yesterday while we had some fun together. Caroline is reclining on her mini-boppy thingy that is supposed to be for tummy time. She really doesn’t like tummy time at all, but she loves reclining on her throne mini-boppy where she can get a full view of her kingdom.

Yesterday I finally took the time to locate a poem online. I could only remember it was about babies don’t keep. I found it and it encouraged me. I have already been letting some things go, knowing that Caroline will only be little once and in all likelihood David and I will not be passing through the infant/baby stage again as parents. So I’m forgetting about a lot of other things for now and trying to focus on enjoying my baby.

Babies Don’t Keep

Mother, oh Mother,

come shake out your cloth,

empty the dustpan,

poison the moth,

hang out the washing

and butter the bread,

sew on a button and make up a bed.

Where is the mother whose house

is so shocking?

She’s up in the nursery,

blissfully rocking.

Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little

Boy Blue (lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

Dishes are waiting and bills are past due

(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).

The shopping’s not done

and there’s nothing for stew

and out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo

but I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.

Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?

(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing

will wait till tomorrow,

for children grow up,

as I’ve learned to my sorrow.

So quiet down, cobwebs.

Dust go to sleep.

I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

    She’s a keeper! Cherish every moment…
It really WAS just YESTERDAY that mine were wee fledglings just like your sweet Caroline.
…from a mom with five who have flown the nest…

I agree with Jo Annne. Caroline she is a blessed child of god. May He and Our Lady keep her and cradle her, and may they bless your family for years and years.
    Tenderly,

For 20+ years, I’ve been writing about following Jesus Christ and making choices based on what is true, beautiful, and eternal. Through purposeful living, self-employment, and homeschooling, our family has learned that freedom comes from a commitment to examine all of life and think for yourself.

I hope you will join me here where we discuss all of life each day.

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.
