Our Cozy Home No. 64

This was a long week as evidenced by the fact that I’m writing this Friday post on Saturday morning. But even in the midst of everything that went on, there have been many good things.

I took the time and wrote some actual snail mail notes this week. I received lovely birthday cards from two life-long friends and took the time to write real handwritten notes in response. I used my pretty new notecards I received for Christmas. It felt good to do something real. I highly encourage it.

I purchased Word Up! from Compass Classroom. I can tell this is going to be a helpful tool. We’ve not done any formal vocabulary curriculum to this point. I’ve never felt the need since this is something that is very natural in day-to-day life in our family. However, I thought it would be good to start looking at Greek and Latin roots of words.

This format is right up Caroline’s alley given her learning style and challenges. I’ve been looking at Compass Classroom materials for some time and am glad I decided to give them a try. I am pretty sure I will be buying more of them.

I’ve started to make an effort to be more active on Gab in order to give back. I wrote a post a few years back called Choose Your Five Homeschool People Carefully. As I said in that post, I do believe we are significantly impacted by those we interact with on a regular basis. I can honestly say that there are a number of people on Gab who bolster my courage. Not in the homeschooling area as in that post, but in the Christian faith sense. If we want to be bold, we need to surround ourselves with bold people. Their boldness helps me to be bold as well.

Have a lovely weekend!

Sallie Schaaf Borrink

For 20+ years, I’ve been writing about following Jesus Christ and making choices based on what is true, beautiful, and eternal. Through purposeful living, self-employment, and homeschooling, our family has learned that freedom comes from a commitment to examine all of life and think for yourself.

I hope you will join me here where we discuss all of life each day.

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.

countenance: To favor; to encourage by opinion or words; To encourage; to appear in defense (Websters Dictionary 1828)
