My One Post Of This 2012 Election

Post may contain affiliate links. Read my disclosure statement.

A number of months ago I took down most of my past political posts. I had decided I wasn’t going to write about politics any longer. It’s not much fun and I don’t want to live there. (I did make a few comments about the Chick-fil-a flap on my other site in the context of a lengthier post.)

But I decided today I would put up one post for this cycle and see what people are thinking. I’m sure some of you have wondered what I’ve been thinking since you know my views about a number of topics that are relevant to this election. Some of you know me well enough to probably know EXACTLY what I’m thinking!  LOL!

I went back and read some of the posts I wrote and your comments around the time Obama was elected. Kind of interesting to read them and see how we were wrong and right about things. Here are a few if you want to see what you said at that time.

My Continuing Thoughts on the Election (October 2008)

I figured out how I can save us $800 a month! (October 2008)

The blood of innocents and the wasted votes that will kill them (October 2008)

Election wrap-up: vent, cry, throw up or otherwise (November 2008)

My hopes for the Obama presidency (January 2009)

My views remain unchanged. Obama is an unmitigated disaster just as I knew he would be. He had no business being president and is totally unqualified. If you want to know what a country looks like when no one is leading, just look around you.  It sickens me that he had the honor – yes, HONOR – of being president of this country.

Our country is headed for a cliff economically. I’m not sure Romney-Ryan can stop what almost seems to be inevitable, but I sure as h*** know that nothing is going to improve under another four years of Obama. If you think the economy, business conditions, unemployment, etc. are bad now… This will only be the tip of the iceberg for what lies ahead if Obama is re-elected.

My one regret of this election cycle is the fact that I didn’t take Caroline to see Romney when he came to Cute Little Town during the primaries. He was literally two miles from our house and it would have been a very accessible gathering. But I didn’t think he would get the nomination so I didn’t go. Knowing he may become president now, I wish I had taken her to see him in person.

I’ve got more to say, but I’ll leave it for the comments. Actually I have a lot more to say, but probably won’t say some of it because I think it is dangerous for people to actually publicly express their opinions in this country. I think you won’t see many election signs up in yards this fall for that very reason.

Anyone want to share their thoughts about the current election and/or the past four years? Was it better than you thought? Worse? Thoughts on Romney-Ryan? Still going to vote for Obama again?

I was in the drug store the other day and you would not believe the anger vented toward me. Clerk mentioned something about elections I didn’t want to discuss it so I said I’d be glad when they were over. She said well…I’m not voting for so and so. She said he is a ____ would you want a _____ as president. I said well…..do we know much about either religion? She was livid and continued to state her case. I said well we live in America and we have the right to make our own choice. As I walked out I also said I’m glad arn’t you? She was so defensive and angry. Where does the anger come from? It is every where. I’ll be glad to see people calm down and give thanks.http://aquietsimplelife.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif

I agree with you wholehartedly. On every point.

I also might add that I think our economy is going off the cliff sometime VERY soon no matter who is in the White House. There’s a storm coming that no one short of God can stop. But it needs to come and then maybe we can course-correct a bit and start over. It will be extremely painful and if I sound like I want it to happen, I do not. But I see no other way.

4 more years under our current POTUS Obama will be disaster – and I’m not even talking economy. I’m talking war, degrading of culture, lost rights, and much more.

I fear for our children, but I also know that my job is to equip them to be prepared in all ways – financially, physically, emotionally, spiritually. I can only give them the tools and then hope for the best.

I’ve never felt more “gloom and doom” than I do today, reading about the mess in Libya. The media is so completely one-sided I don’t even read or watch much news anymore. It is heart wrenching to me as a patriot and conservative.

Forgot to add that we did go see Romney & Ryan when they were in NC. Just 2 days after Ryan as VP was announced. My kids enjoyed the experience. I enjoyed hearing them and being a part. But it was hot and very crowded. About 15,000 people showed up for 5,000 spots. We were lucky enough that we just barely got in the doors. But even then it was hot and crowded and they were over 2 hours late.

It was nice to be a part of something bigger. Like you eluded to with the Chick fil A thing — I got a strong sense from folks that people are just sick and tired and want to DO something to feel like they are making a difference. People really feel like everything has been stripped from them and they’re not going to take it lying down anymore.

Perhaps that will pay off come November. I have my doubts, but it could happen.

I’ll try again ! I am voting Romney but not thrilled . Democrats seem obsessed with sex and female reproductive parts. They seem to be so angry and use the buzz words ” racist and homophobe” to shut down any exchange of ides. It does seem scary . I have only seen 4 political signa so far equally devivded. One note of interrest is all the Obama supporters on our road in the past 4 year have lost their homes, divorced , or lost their jobs and left to find work. The rest of us although we have all been through rough times have remained stable. One last idea which may seem really “out there” It occured to me as I watched the Democrats deny God 3 times , being a Christian reminded me of Peter denying Christ 3 times. I wonder if God allowed this as a “wake up ” call to the Christian community, wake up and be alert! So I am being more watchful at this time . My husband thinks I am nuts of course!! and maybe I am,.! Karen

I’m not crazy about Romney, because his Massachusetts health care mandate paved the way for Obama’s national health care reform. I haven’t forgotten that, and I’m not going to forget it before the election. I haven’t been keeping up with the Republicans enough to know anything about Ryan.

I did watch some of the Democratic Convention. Obama used some numbers in his speech that made me laugh. His energy policy and small business policy are still stuck on Clueless. The Democrats did have some good hair and makeup people there for the speakers.

From what I’ve heard about the Libertarian Party candidate, Gary Johnson, I don’t want to vote for him either.

I may have to sit this election out.

I’m not a huge fan of Romney but he is FAR better than having a Socialist agenda in the White House another year.

I remember in the last election when some well known Christian leaders told people not to vote for Romney because he was a Mormon. But is a Mormon worse than a Socialist?

I’m also staying away from politics for the most part because it is not where I want my blog to go right now but even I had to comment on recent events Saturday. 🙂

As for staying away, if we do that then Obama will most likely win. Just statistically… the sitting president usually wins if the vote is low.

Without being specific, because I too feel it’s dangerous to state political opinions in public, I am very afraid for our country.:(

There is a discussion on The Wartburg Watch about the new movie Last Ounce of Courage. It has sparked some heated words about America, patriotism, Christians and the future of our country. I thought this comment was especially good as it gets to the crux of the issue from my perspective at least.

Anyone who has read here any length of time knows my views on Mormonism. I think it is a religious system fraught with many doctrines that keep it from being a part of the orthodox, Christian faith. (Take a look at this Letter to a Mormon Family to understand why and especially read the beginning and end if you aren’t familiar with some of those problems.)

That said, it won’t keep me from voting for Romney. There is zero chance Obama-Biden fix anything that is wrong with this country economically. IMHO Romney-Ryan is the only feasible option we have. Would Romney have been my first choice? No. But I believe that they both realize the dire situation we are in and know that something has to be done. Even Romney’s healthcare thing in MA doesn’t concern me as much as it might have otherwise because I think they are both smart enough to know that that kind of thing can’t fly now. I think Ryan especially gets it and we can only hope and pray that Romney takes his expertise and knowledge seriously if/when they get in office.

I’ll be happy if we can just get someone in office who takes us away from the dirt crumbling beneath our feet as we stand on the edge of the cliff. Stop the imminent catastrophe first and then try to rebuild and move on after that in more productive ways.

I know social justice issues are important for many people and that pushes them to vote Obama. (Although this is a man who doesn’t even care for his own brother so why people think he cares about them is beyond me.) Social justice issues aren’t going to matter if our country ends up imploding economically.

Remember this link I’ve shared over the years? It looks a little different now as they have redesigned it, but the information is still there. The Fourth Turning. Look at it and ask yourself if you want Obama or Romney leading us during the Fourth Turning. The Where We Are Today is also interesting.

We can say we don’t like the choices, but that’s all we have. For whatever reasons, God has allowed these to be the two nominees you have to choose from.

Here are a few more Mormon links to consider…

A letter written by a ward bishop when a member left. This is full of Mormon teachings that are obviously not compatible with Christianity. Any Christian who knows the Scriptures and the basic doctrines of the Christian faith will see that there are huge red flags here.

And if you want to read the interesting and thoroughly sad history of the idea of blood atonement in the Mormon church, check out Mormon Blood Atonement. I’ve read a lot about Mormonism, but much of this was new to me. Hard to fathom. This is yet another example of Mormonism using the same terminology as Christians and yet they mean something completely different.

I really need to stop reading this Mormon stuff or I may completely talk myself out of voting. The part about her dad broke my heart.

Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to vote for Romney in light of his Mormon beliefs?

    Gah.

And let me clarify that last comment since thinking about it while making dinner…

I completely defend Romney’s rights to his Mormon beliefs. This is America and he is free to be Mormon and worship according to this Mormon beliefs. But the mainstreaming of Mormonism and the increasing acceptance of it as almost another denomination of Christianity is seriously troubling to me.

Cut your hours thanks to Obamacare

Our health insurance premium went up almost another hundred dollars a month this month thanks to Obamacare. That’s a hundred dollars a month wasted down the government drain that we no longer have available to us for more important things. 👿 👿 👿 👿 👿

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.
