Tucker Carlson is perhaps my favorite person on any news channel. One of the reasons is because we think in similar ways. He is a big picture person. He looks beyond the news sound bites of today and looks long term. (He also illustrates absurdity with absurdity which I love.)
Recently he has been examining the long-term impact on our country of current policies related to families.
Women Participation in the Work Force
This short video segment is an excellent overview of why the excitement over low unemployment and high women participation in the workforce does nothing to encourage me. The numbers that get shared in the media are deceptive because they only show a small part of the picture.
Tucker Carlson gets it and he cites Elizabeth Warren who clearly made the point in her 2003 book The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle Class Parents Are (Still) Going Broke. (This link is the revised edition.)
I was quite disappointed in watching Elizabeth Warren’s campaign announcement video, how little she actually spoke to the issues that she raised in The Two Income Trap. The video starts out along those lines, but by the end it is full-on anti-conservative progressivism. I don’t think that is going to help the Democrats win back the middle.
I read The Two Income Trap some years ago (probably in its first edition), and I thought it was a decent book, although I didn’t agree with it entirely.
I don’t remember that she addressed the issue of immigration depressing wages in the book; at this point, immigration affects every single social issue in the U.S. Certainly she avoided mentioning it in the video.

It really shows how far left the Democrat Party has moved in the past ten to fifteen years when Elizabeth Warren would not even dare say today the very things she published in 2003. There are also videos of other prominent Democrats who took clear stands on topics they would never touch now.
The Democrat Party of the past no longer exists. If they haven’t reached the point of no return, they have to be right at the edge of the cliff. I’m not sure who among them will stand up to the Far Left and Progressives to try to move it back to the middle. The most prominent among them (and the youngest among those) are all full on Progressives and/or openly stated Socialists.
