I chose this artwork by Albert Anker because I think it demonstrates what a lot of us probably think. Homemaking is important, but never let it get in the way of sneaking in a few pages of a book while you rest during the day! LOL!
So last week was an almost total fail for me with my three goals. But I’m not giving up. I’m going to make the same three goals again this week but I’m not going to write out the details again:
- Home inventory
- Christmas inventory to start planning
- Inventory my specific foods
What three specific goals do you have this week? They can be big or tiny – anything that brings greater peace to your home.
If you haven’t explored everything on my site, you will find many things in my shop under All Products for Women that are devoted to all parts of homemaking. There are lots of downloadable ideas for inspiration.
There are also ideas for other parts of the home that could relate to homemaking tasks since homemaking is rather broad. The way I define homemaking, it’s not just about cleaning. Making a home is much more than simply cleaning the mirrors or doing laundry. Those are important and necessary, but just a small part of what makes a home special.

Relaxed Homeschooling In Seventh Grade
Hi Sallie. Yes, that’s a great piece of artwork … it would be even truer of me if there was a piece of chocolate in the corner;).
Last week, I saw your post and finally defined some goals by midweek. Thank you for the idea though. It did spur me on to meet two outdoor goals. We got the garden stones, decorations, etc all put away before much snow came and also got the bird feeders ready. We got a good-sized amount of snow here in central Ontario today so I got those done in time!
This week:
1. Clean ceiling fans
2. Clear out baking cupboards to see what might need to be replenished and what I might be hanging onto that I don’t actually need (from one time recipes with obscure ingredients, lol). This is long overdue.
3. Paint our wooden table in the kitchen. It’s old but has history, in our home and ones before it.

Thanks for sharing your goals! And, yes, chocolate! Or coffee. Or a mocha so you get both. LOL!
We received about three inches of snow today. It was so pretty coming down. I have to say this is kind of early, though, even for me as a snow lover. This could be a really long winter. We had virtually no real autumn to speak of.
What kinds of birds do you get at your feeders?

Yes, the snow is so pretty coming down but I agree. As much as I like snow, I think I like fall even more and feel like it suddenly got cut short!
We get mainly chickadees, juncos and blue jays at our feeders but we have northern cardinals hanging around almost daily and sometimes have goldfinches. The most frequent visitors to the feeders are actually squirrels, so there has been a lot of experimenting with different feeders and angles involved to make sure the birds actually get some, lol.
Those are pretty much the same birds we get. We get a lot of cardinals all year. We joke that we grow our own flocks in our yard. I love them.
We only get juncos in the winter. They come in the middle of October and almost always leave on April 15th.
Are you using poles for your feeders? We have squirrel baffles and they work fantastically. Ours are like this:

Thank you … good to know that has been effective! I was looking at different options last year. My son built a beautiful wooden feeder that was angled in such a way that we thought it would prevent the squirrels from getting the seeds but they have managed so we might need to look into this:).
Oh yay! I’m glad you put this up again. I must have missed checking earlier.
Goals:
1) Focus clean the schoolroom (getting much easier since I organized everything last month)
2) Publish monthly homeschool newsletter (not really homemaking, but I lose sleep over it — wrestling with desktop publishing software is not my thing)
3) Clean up my quail cages for winter recess (barn-making? homemaking in the barn?)

Glad you found it! My goal has been to get it up before noon EST on Mondays with a Friday Follow-up also before noon on Friday. Keyword = goal.

So my secret objective in starting this series of posts was to help everyone else feel better about themselves and how well they are doing with their goals while watching me fail to meet mine. LOL!
Okay, I did make some progress on mine during week two.
Goal 1: Complete a Home Inventory. I started this one. I now have the video recorder loaded with a new tape and sitting next to me on the desk. I plan on doing the actual taping in the morning when the sun is out and things are brighter in the house. (UPDATE: Done!)
Goal 2: Christmas inventory is not done yet. In my defense, I need David to move a bunch of bins for me and it wasn’t a priority this week with other things he had going on. (UPDATE: Done!)
Goal 3: Inventory of my special foods did get done! I also stocked up on some of them today during a trip to Trader Joe’s. I ordered a few more things this afternoon that I can only get from Amazon (Ancient Organics Ghee and Spatone Liquid Iron). (UPDATE: Done!)
It sounds like you made good progress! I got one out of three done – got the fans cleaned! I guess I’ll carry my other two over for next week:).
I surprised myself and got most of mine done.
1) newsletter completed and sent out — phew!
2) schoolroom cleaned. we didn’t get as far as wiping down the baseboards, but it’s dusted to a 7-year-old level, vacuumed, and everything put away.
3) quail set-up: I knew this one was kind-of too ambitious. I got the adult quail processed, which took up my limited kid-free time for two days, but I didn’t clean out the pens. They’ll still be there next week…
Knowing that I planned to publicly check in on my goals at the end of this week really motivated me to keep moving forward on them. Thanks for putting these posts up!
Okay, I got mine done! It’s Sunday evening and I updated the post but whew! I did not want to start Week 3 with any goals still hanging over. LOL!
