Our Baby Registries

Well, I’m slowly wrapping up the registering. It has been made a lot more complicated by the fact that Babies ‘R Us is discontinuing their association with Amazon.com. Everything is supposed to be transferred to the new Babies ‘R Us site at the beginning of July, but it makes it rather a pain to update the registry online in the meantime.

The first time I went online to my Babies ‘R Us registry after we started in the store, I about had a coronary. Practically everything we selected was not available! I called to find out what was going on and was told it is because they are emptying the warehouse for the switchover but everything will be available again after the switchover. Whew!

So, for what it’s worth for the curious among us, here are the things I registered for:

  • Babies ‘R Us

Most of the big things we liked (stroller, swing, car seat, bouncy seat, pack and play, etc.) in the fabric we liked were only available at the USA Baby store. Not a problem, except their registry doesn’t have pictures. So here is our registry:

  • USA Baby

And here is a link from another website that shows what a lot of the stuff looks like. It is black and off-white toile and check, but you can hardly tell it in the picture. Believe me, it’s really cute in person!

And here is our last registry:

  • Amazon.com

That’s what we’ve been up to. There are still some things I need to add, but I’m waiting until after the switchover because using the system right now is driving me batty. I’m still trying to decide about the bedding and crib so I’ll put up some links to those when I get that figured out.

I have never seen anything like this before. Is having a ‘registry’ something that a lot of people do? A bit like a wedding gift list?

Susanna – Baby registries are pretty common in the US. Moms are usually given baby showers by close friends, family and/or their church when they have their first baby. The registry is a way of sharing what you would like. Some people buy things on the registry and some don’t. 🙂

I went to the Baby Supermarket website and couldn’t pull up your registry. I tried your full name (with ann) and then both your names – nothing came up! Help!!!!

Jo Anne – We’re not registered at Baby Supermarket. I just put that there for the picture since USA Baby doesn’t have pictures to go with the products. 🙂

Don’t get too caught up in the consumerism of having a baby. Most of that stuff isn’t needed. A sling, some cloth diapers, and love from mother’s breasts are the basics.
