Modern conveniences are wonderful until we don’t have them and realize anew how totally dependent we are on them to do just about everything.

We lost our power Sunday afternoon shortly after I posted the flower pictures. We still don’t have it and the restoration estimate is 10:00 p.m. this evening. Hopefully that will be the case. So I went somewhere I could use the high speed internet and check my mail, etc.

Isn’t it amazing all the things we can’t do without electricity?

• No drying or curling hair
• No coffee
• No milk for granola because I can’t open the refrigerator (I’ve probably already lost everything in there anyway)
• No morning smoothie
• No blog entries
• No reading my email
• No editing documents for work
• No cooking
• No air conditioning
• No fans
• No washing, ironing, vacuuming, etc.
• No CDs to listen to
• No recharging the cell phone

The list could go on and on and on. Yesterday we couldn’t even read because it was so dark at 5:00 p.m. with the storms you literally couldn’t see the person across the room from you.

We looked into getting a permanent generator a few years ago, but it was too expensive to do when we didn’t plan on staying in this house indefinitely. But this has been a good reminder of why we want one. Over the past eight years we have lost our power more times than I can count. Once we lost it for five days after we had severe straight line winds go through.

Well, this isn’t terribly profound, but just wanted to say hi and let everyone know why I didn’t finish posting the recipes. I will do that once we are back online at home. I’m off to clean out the refrigerator. I’ve actually been in the process of using things up so I won’t lose as much as I normally would. My main hope right now is that I don’t lose everything in my upright freezer in the basement. I’ve been making tons of meals ahead and we stocked up on Ben and Jerry’s New York Super Fudge Chunk when it was half price! Oh well. It’s only food.
