I first introduced my readers to Mr. D Online Math Classes when I had the opportunity to sit in on and review one of his online pre-algebra courses. I was impressed by what I saw and said so. So when I had an additional opportunity to check out his ACT test prep classes online, I was definitely interested since I know many people are searching for online answers to test prep.
I received access to an online session and the online self-paced materials. I am being compensated for my time to write this review. I was not required to write a positive review.
ACT Test Prep Classes Online
Mr. D’s ACT test prep classes online are designed specifically to prepare the learner for the math portion of the ACT test. His class is the ACT Math Bootcamp.
The thing I like about Mr. D’s ACT Math Bootcamp approach is that it is strategy-focused:
What if your child actually understood every question on the ACT? (Even the tricky ones …) What if they knew exactly how to deconstruct the word problems and “translate” them into formulas they already know how to solve? What if they knew the best way to use scientific and graphing calculators ? (They’re allowed during the test, you know …) What if they understood how the ACT is scored and knew how to figure out the correct answers by eliminating all the incorrect ones?
In the end, the ACT is as much a test of test-taking strategies as it is actual knowledge. Your child may be a wealth of information and learning. But if she doesn’t understand how the questions are structured and what each question is actually testing, she won’t do as well as she potentially could have.
ACT Math Prep Classes
Mr. D’s classes are thorough and well-organized. He keeps up-to-date with all of the developments in the testing industry and that is reflected in his materials. There is a wealth of information, videos, practice tests, and more for developing math testing skills.
I am guessing most parents don’t feel qualified to get their child ready for an important test such as the ACT without outside help. Yes, you can spend hours studying to try to educate yourself in order to help your child. Or you can make a small investment in a class such as the ACT Math Bootcamp and have your child work with someone who lives and breathes this information.
In my opinion, it’s a no brainer. We are relaxed homeschoolers and very much of the DIY homeschool variety. However, this is something you hire a professional for in order to get the most out of the testing experience whether it is for admissions, scholarships, or something else. There is so much riding on tests such as the ACT that it only makes sense to provide your child access to someone who really understands how to excel on these tests.
Again, these tests are just as much about strategy as they are information. Your child has to understand the underlying questions driving each part of the test in order to do well.
NCAA Approved Courses
I also want to mention that Mr. D Math is now approved by the NCAA for students seeking collegiate athletic scholarships. The following courses have been approved by the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association):
- Algebra I
- Geometry
- Algebra II
- Pre-Calculus with Trigonometry
I think this is simply a further illustration of his commitment to making sure his students get everything they can out of his classes.
