Trusting God To Guide Our Parent-Child Homeschool Relationship

It’s easy for me to forget that my always homeschooled child has no real concept of what “school” entails. As I was working on our high school plans this summer, I realized I needed to start by educating Caroline as to what I was doing. I want to solicit her input as much as possible, but I had to give her the framework for it.

In the course of explaining credits and hours and so on to her, we ended up having a really lovely conversation. It was yet another reminder that the main purpose of what I’m doing is the relationship. I’m reminded of the post I wrote entitled When You Begin To See Your Child As A Problem To Be Solved. In this case, I went into the conversation with the plan of educating Caroline about high school requirements. But God in His graciousness allowed not only that, but a truly meaningful conversation. I was focused on solving the problem (high school plan). I had asked God to show me how to help Caroline understand what I’m trying to accomplish with her education. He gave me even more than that.

God will always meet us and our children who belong to Him exactly where we need Him to do so. We simply need to ask. It might not look the way we expect. But if we belong to Him and earnestly desire His guidance, He will always answer in love.

One more post that someone needs to read today. I didn’t plan on sharing it, but the Lord brought it to mind to share. So here it is for the mom who needs it: Dear Homeschool Mom – Please Stop Worrying
