My Journaling Bible and Devotions Book For This Year

I received two lovely gifts for Christmas that I’m using this year for my Bible reading and devotional time. Although I have a couple of Bibles I still like to use over and over again, I also like something new.

This year I was blessed to receive two wonderful presents I will enjoy using all year long.

Mornings With Jesus Devotional

The first is Mornings with Jesus 2019. This is a daily devotional book for women published each year by Guideposts. My parents have purchased this for me in the past, but I haven’t had a new one in some time. I had pulled one of the old ones off the bookshelf to possibly use this year and surprise! My mom got me one for Christmas.

Mornings with Jesus 2019

I really like this devotional book series. The devotionals are simple but meaningful. They are written by a number of different women who bring their own unique perspective to each devotion they write.

Update: I only used the devotional about half the year. They have changed it a lot in the past few years. It’s much more watered down and trending toward social justice/woke theology. I sadly no longer recommend this series.

NIV Journal the Word Bible for Women

David and Caroline purchased a journaling Bible for me. The NIV Journal the Word Bible for Women is truly lovely.

This is the newer NIV and it’s the first Bible I have in this version. Being a creature of habit, I prefer reading the original NIV since I did most of my Bible memorizing with it (or KJV way back in my AWANA days), but this is a good version for reading as a devotional. I also think it’s helpful to read different versions to get out of our (ahem) ruts.

I can’t say enough about how gorgeous the cover is. It has beautiful colors, script, and embossing. It feels like a high-quality hardcover book.

It is designed to lay flat which is so nice if you are using it for Bible study. It also makes it very easy to write in it.

The inside is pretty. The two page spreads vary with journal prompts or simply space for writing.

It has red letters for Jesus.

The paper is relatively thin so I don’t think it wouldn’t work for markers and such. It’s definitely for writing, journaling, and note taking and not artwork.

But overall a lovely Bible I’m enjoying this year!

What are you using for your Bible study and devotional time right now?

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.

countenance: To favor; to encourage by opinion or words; To encourage; to appear in defense (Websters Dictionary 1828)
