We happened across Market Day at the library one day while perusing the shelves for our pile of books to bring home. It was a book we all instantly liked and have read many times since.

I didn’t realize it was a sequel to another favorite in our home, The Milkman, until I read the Amazon review. Then it all made sense!

Market Day

This is a cute story about a farm family that oversleeps and has to hurry to get their produce to the farm market in their town by the bay. In their haste, they create another problem that develops over the course of the story.

Market Day has delightful illustrations with a retro feel. David loves the art in this book. Douglas B. Jones has done a fantastic job of capturing the text in visual form.

If you like lyrical read-alouds with whimsical illustrations, you’ll enjoy this book. I also appreciated the small town setting and the feel of a warm community.

Enjoy!
