A Few Thoughts on Psalm 91

Scripture is honest about the suffering, danger, weariness, and fear we face as those who follow our Heavenly Father. I’ve shared Psalm 91 multiple times over the years because I find it comforting to be reminded that even though we walk through trouble and danger, God is there.

Psalm 91 gives us something far better than pretending trouble does not exist. It turns our attention to the Most High, the Almighty, the Lord who is our refuge and fortress. It teaches us to speak the truth to ourselves and those around us: “My God; in him will I trust.”

Reminding ourselves of this truth matters in a Christian family. We need reminders that our peace is not rooted in having perfect circumstances, perfect plans, or perfect control. Our peace is rooted in the character of God. He is sovereign, faithful, and near to His people. Under His wings, we are not abandoned.
