Four Weeks of No Rhythm or Routine

The past four weeks (starting Thanksgiving week) have been devoid of any rhythm or routine. I can’t get into details because it involves a wide range of people and circumstances, but a number of things have been demanding and emotionally draining.

On top of that, David had to have an infected tooth removed. Caroline came down with something Tuesday evening so she’s been sick since then. She discovered Home Improvement reruns and has started working her way through those as something to pass the time and make her laugh. David is sick now just as he finishes recovering from the dental procedure. I can tell my body is fighting it off and I’m hoping my immune system has already encountered this particular thing. I’m working diligently today to get laundry all caught up and things around the house squared away just in case.

This means, of course, that all of my Christmas preparations have been derailed to varying degrees. I am trying to finish up my Christmas shopping online as much as I can today because I suspect Caroline and I may not be able to get out again to shop. Thankfully David and Caroline did their annual Daddy-Daughter Christmas Shopping Day on Monday. My main holes are David, stockings, and my parents (which should have already been mailed). We had to cancel our get-together with David’s parents. We “missed” church last week because it was our turn for nursery duty. We’ll now miss church this week. No cards done and not sure how I will get a picture of Caroline to share when she’s sick.

And so it goes.

This week I haven’t slept well because when your husband and daughter are both not sleeping well, you don’t sleep well either. So I was up in the middle of last night for hours working on my websites, something I’ve barely had time for the past month. It was better than being wide awake in bed, unable to sleep.

And we’ve had almost no snow which is also sad. The warmish weather definitely helps with the heating bills, but it isn’t very pretty outside.

On the bright side, I’m pleased with the progress I’m making on this website when I squeeze in a few minutes to tinker with it. I have lots of notes written down which I’m trying to slowly implement. I also recorded a lengthy podcast for my other website, something I hadn’t done since April.

Also on the bright side, I am very excited about what is ahead for our country. I know that might sound crazy given all going on, but I am full of hope and anticipation.

I hope your holiday season has been healthier and less draining than mine! LOL!
