Guess the Baby Name!


Someone left a comment last evening that I should do a post and let everyone guess the name of the baby. That sounds fun to me, so here we go!

I do want to mention that I did ask for suggestions a while back and gave some “guidelines” that David and I were working under.

Here are the “guidelines” David and I are operating under. (And I sincerely hope I don’t offend anyone by what I write here. These are just our preferences!)

No trendy or made-up names
No trendy alternate spellings
Nothing excessively popular (This is a hard one because many of my favorite names in the past are now really popular so I won’t consider them any longer – names like Emma, Grace, etc. I like having a “different” name and not being one of ten “Xs” in my circle of friends.)
Classic and timeless names are best
Old-fashioned is good, outdated is not

So if you want to take a guess at the first and middle names you think we might have picked, feel free. Our last name is Borrink if that helps in guessing something that sounds good (which was very important to me since we don’t have the most beautiful or melodic last name to work with!).

NO ONE knows the name other than David and me. We haven’t discussed names with anyone else and we don’t even use the name around the house. We still call her Peanut all the time. I’m afraid if I start calling her by the name we’ve chosen, I’ll slip and use it in front of someone else. So I don’t even THINK of her by her name yet. In fact, it will be weird at first to call her by her name and not call her Peanut after using Peanut for nine months! We’ll have to slowly switch over since whenever I talk to her now I call her Peanut. If I start calling her by her name as soon as she’s born she won’t know who I’m talking to! LOL!!!

No Baby Yet… Just a Tired Mommy-To-Be


I’m 37 weeks now and continue to feel the toll of carrying around the extra X number of baby pounds. (Nope, I’m not telling, but my doctor is happy with my weight gain if that counts for anything!) The doctor is guessing she’s over eight pounds and that I could end up with a nine pound baby. We’ll see if he’s right. My diabetes is under control without insulin (Praise God!) and other than being tired and the normal discomforts, I feel pretty good.

Last night I had my first really strong contractions and wondered if this might be “it”. But it was not. Peanut has dropped, but there isn’t anything else significant to report. The doctor did say that if I went into labor now, we would do the c-section, but he would really prefer that she have another week or two to bake. 🙂

(I have to admit that I vacillate between wanting this baby to be born YESTERDAY and thinking, “I’m not ready to have a baby!”)

Anyway, the doctor told me I need to rest more. I already feel like I don’t do much, but I can tell that I just have to keep cutting back more each day so that’s why posts, email answers, and comment responses are slow (to non-existent) around here lately (and will probably continue to be so in the days ahead).

I thought I would go ahead and share a few prayer requests related to the delivery and recovery since I have no idea when Peanut may make her arrival. If you are led to pray for us, we would certainly appreciate those prayers.

  • That the peace of God that transcends all understanding would guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
  • A safe c-section with no complications for me or Peanut. Specifically, that I would not have concerns over blood clots. (I lost a friend to blood clots after surgery and I have to admit that this does cross my mind.) And that Peanut would have no complications due to the gestational diabetes.
  • That the doctors will have wisdom and discernment regarding the medication they give me, especially the amounts. My body is super sensitive and I’m more concerned about dealing with the potential after effects of the medications than I am about the pain itself. (If you have a body where the side effects of the cure are often worse than the original ailment, you understand what I mean!)
  • Stamina and strength for David as he juggles work, a pregnant/recovering wife and a new little girl.
  • A speedy recovery without complications so I can start to enjoy my new little girl!

I’ll be continuing to blog in the hours/days/weeks ahead, but things might be slow for a while. As soon as we have news to share, we’ll be posting an announcement and pictures! David has already checked and the hospital does have wireless internet access so we’ll be good to go. 🙂

Forget About a Heat Index – We’ve Got a Wind Chill


I was originally going to title this “Feeding the inner Swede”. Then I thought about “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…” But when I took a look at our NOAA forecast today and saw a WIND CHILL measurement, I knew that those titles just would not do. (Our wind chill right now is 52 degrees.)

Ah, yes. Fall, my most very favorite season, has returned to Michigan. I am such a happy, happy girl.

Yesterday was deliciously cool – I don’t know if it made it much above 60 degrees. I sat on the porch swing reading a book while David was deadheading the marigolds. There was enough of a breeze in the already cool air that I had to put on a jacket on top of my cotton sweater. I made pea soup and blueberry cobbler. I lit the candles, put our favorite autumn CDs in the disc changer, and enjoyed the cozy, overcast day.

I am such a happy, happy girl! 🙂

Curious Mom-To-Be Question #3,567,902


When we met with our pediatrician, he recommended not taking Peanut out where there are a lot of people (mall, store, church, etc.) the first six weeks. I had vaguely heard something like this before, but have also seen a lot of people not practice this. For example, we’ve had a number of new babies in our church over the past six months, but they have all been in the service with their moms (not in the nursery) within literally a week or two of being born.

I’m sure the first couple of weeks I won’t be physically ready to even attempt church, but am wondering about not going for six weeks.

Just curious how other women handle this.
