A Day In Our Cozy Life #2 – Poetry, Starry Night With The Wave Shower Curtain, Doll Ornament, and More

It’s going to be a very hot and humid July week. We’re planning on enjoying lots of at-home activities to beat the heat. Here is a peak around our cozy home!

Caroline and I haven’t done much poetry in our homeschool so that’s something we’re doing this summer. I bought Anna Growing Up on the Farm years ago (well before Caroline). I brought it out because I thought she would love the fun poems and the gorgeous oil paintings in a large, over-sized format. I was right. We’ve enjoyed reading this as part of our learning time. We’re working on reading aloud so I’m choosing enjoyable poems to practice on.

Shower Curtain with Starry Night and The Wave

Two weeks ago we updated Caroline’s bathroom. She knew exactly which shower curtain she wanted. It combines Starry Night with The Wave, two of her favorite paintings. We bought it from Amazon where you can see the full thing. The pictures don’t do it justice. The colors are gorgeous.

This is Elizabeth. She hangs on the memo board near my desk. Elizabeth was an impulse purchase from the Christmas section of Target a few years ago. She was  $3 and I thought one of the cutest little doll ornaments I’d ever seen. (She’s also sporting a bracelet Caroline made for her.) She stays out all year because she makes me happy.

Caroline painted this at a library event. She used q-tips with craft paint on black craft board. There were some idea pages to look at, but there was no template. She did it all freehand. I am amazed at the symmetry she achieved without a pattern.

We moved things around in our family room a couple of months ago and I like it SO MUCH better now. We were able to enjoy a few fires in June after making the change, but I think we’ll especially enjoy it in the fall and winter when we tend to spend more time in this room. (You can see how the room looked before in Our Cozy Home Remodel.)

Whenever I play the piano, I finish with Come, Ye Thankful People, Come. It’s been one of my favorites for many years. If you aren’t familiar with it, Come, Ye Thankful People, Come is the first hymn on this playlist I’ve shared before. You can see all of the verses here.

I hope you enjoyed a peek into our home!

Sallie, thank you for a look at your lovely home. Caroline is such a talented artist. It is hot her in New York and the weather is predicted to get even hotter over the week end. That doll is adorable. I look forward to your enjoyable posts. Keep cool and just think Autumn will be here before you know it. God Bless you and yours.

Things I love in this post:
    1. Caroline’s symmetrical turtle
    2. The crispness of the white trim against the cranberry walls
Thank you for sharing your home and thoughts….

      Hi Erika,

I am amazed at Caroline’s turtle as well. I cannot do symmetry that even approaches anything close to that level.

I love the contrast of the white trim against the colored walls as well. I never thought I would pick cranberry walls, but am so glad we did!

      Have a good day!

      Hi Ticia,

The shower curtain is very Caroline. LOL! It’s not what I would pick for myself, but it’s her bathroom and it makes her happy so that makes me happy as well.

    Hello Sallie;
    This is a lovely post.
Please let Caroline know that I love her turtle picture. It pleases my artistic mind, hee hee!
I just purchased the little book (for a great price) because it reminds of a loved one. It also reminds me of the day; many, many years ago, when my dear ones were outside blowing bubbles (tiny to enormous). It was a day of perfection for bubble blowing because the humidity was perfect. My dear ones blew the most wonderful, huge, stretchy bubbles. I have the incredible pictures. After the gentle bubble blowing time they lassod’/hog tied each other!! It was so funny!! (Oh dear….I think I might start crying….time has rushed so! We are closing in on the last stage of home learning. I’m going to miss it so very much. Sniff, Sniff!)
Your living room is so welcoming and the colors are warm and lovely.

      Hi Birdie,

Isn’t it amazing what a picture can bring to mind? I hope you enjoy the book when it arrives. I find the paintings in it amazing as I have zero talent in that area.

I will pass along your kind words to Caroilne!

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.
