Kitchen & Pantry Reset | Cozy Life Reset – Day 1

I went to bed last night and woke up this morning ready for a personal and homemaking reset. Back to the fundamentals of the cozy life. Refocusing my priorities. Reading my own posts – again! – to refresh myself – again! – what I value and how I make it work. A cozy life reset.

After we had been out multiple times last week on various errands, Caroline said to me when we arrived home late Saturday afternoon, “I understand why we don’t go out a lot.”

Today David and Caroline wanted to grill hot dogs for supper (which we had). However, we had one hot dog bun and one hamburger bun in the freezer. That was it.

We are never without buns. But we were.

So today was a day spent resetting. I anticipate it will be just the first of many. Today I spent time reminding myself of what is in my kitchen and pantry. (This was before we discovered there were almost no buns in the house so clearly I have not finished my work there.)

I no longer get down on myself about these things. David and Caroline adapted. They each used a bun and a loaf of bread end. Adapt and advance.

In fact, things like this are a good reminder of how well my routines and rhythms normally work. Sometimes I get out of sync. This has truly been an out-of-sync school year. There is no other way to describe it. The answer is not to bemoan that I’ve failed to live up to what I’ve done in the past, but to get back in the saddle and do the things that work. As we work to wrap up our homeschool year (Praise the Lord!), I’m already pivoting toward my cozy life reset. Rather than wait until sometime in June to jump in when we are officially done with our studies, I’m jumping in now when highly motivated. I need it now. I need to see the summer light of freedom ahead.

Would you like to do a cozy life reset along with me this summer? I’ll post about things I’m doing as I revisit the fundamentals in my life. Maybe you will be encouraged to reclaim your version of the cozy life. I have no idea what I’ll be doing. All I know is that for at least five minutes each day I want to do something – anything! – that gets me and my family back into our cozy life routine and rhythm.

  • If you’ve forgotten what it is, you can start here: Creating A Cozy Life – Getting Started.
  • If you need homemaking inspiration, there is lots of it in my shop: Homemaking.
  • If you need pantry inspiration, start with this first post in a series: 3 Reasons To Become A Prudent & Prepared Homemaker.

Here’s an idea. Go spend thirty minutes in your kitchen and pantry. See what you discover!

And may you have plenty of buns! LOL!

One of our children is focussed on earning enough money for a computer, and has been doing a lot of deep cleaning tasks for me–which is motivating me to do more work myself. I’ve also had to put more effort into actually looking to see what needs to be done.

Another thing we’ve been working on is using faux painting techniques to do touch-ups around the house…on chipped furniture and the burn marks the previous tenants made on the kitchen linoleum and some wall paint splotches on the ceilings and trim from the landlord’s painters.

      HI Peggy,

It’s wonderful when a child is old enough to be a significant help. It makes such a difference!
