Mice Skating falls into the category of instant favorite. It is so incredibly charming that I can’t imagine a child not liking it (or an adult who enjoys children’s picture books!).
Author Annie Silvestro and illustrator Teagan White have teamed up to create a truly delightful book. The story is meaningful and the illustrations are charming.
Mice Skating
Unlike the rest of the field mice who head for the underground during the cold winter months, Lucy loves winter. She feels completely alive during the colder months. (I think this is one of the reasons I love this book. I feel more alive during the winter, too!)
Lucy is busy making snow angels and snowmice outside while the other mice are gathered beneath the ground enjoying swiss, provolone, and brie (cleverly stored under glass atop a clothespin and thread spool).
Lucy tries to convince her family members to go out with her and enjoy the winter weather. They are not convinced at all. Marcello, in particular, is not convinced and cleverly tells her so with multiple cheese puns.
Can Lucy ever make them understand how magical winter can be above the ground?
Mice Skating is wonderful and definitely worth adding to your collection of cozy picture books.
