Yesterday I had my doctor’s appointment and it was so gratifying to be able to tell him that I had been feeling great the past two weeks. He also told me that I’m doing well with my weight gain so far and am right on track for where he would want me to be. In fact, he said that if you factor in my age, I’m doing really well. So I was happy, happy about that.
I also told him that Little Miss Peanut is very active and we were actually able to see her moving around in my stomach starting this past Saturday. Now instead of reading when I go to bed, I watch my stomach for a while. There will be plenty of time for reading in the future. I may only get this one opportunity to watch my baby moving my belly around so I’m taking advantage of it!
Alas, the golden period of my pregnancy seems to have ended in just two short weeks.
Last night after we got home from prayer meeting (and ice cream), my right leg was bothering me. It felt progressively worse before I went to bed. I hoped that perhaps I could sleep it off since I’ve slept off a lot of minor back discomfort over the past few weeks. Not this time. (sigh) It was worse when I got up and the basics (hot shower, taking a walk, etc.) don’t seem to be helping.
So I’ve talked to the nurse and am waiting to hear what my doctor wants me to do. My physical therapist has already told me that if I have any more difficulties he won’t see me again but will send me to a women’s health place at the hospital that specializes in working with pregnant women with back issues.
So the question is… Is this just a normal side effect of my pregnancy or it is related to my herniated disc from last year? If it is just pregnancy then I can find a way to cope and keep going. If it is related to my disc then I am a lot more concerned. I had hoped against hope that I could avoid this, but I guess not. When I think about all I want to do before the baby comes, sixteen more weeks doesn’t seem like a long time. When I think about dealing with my back for sixteen weeks until the baby comes, oh my. That sounds like a L-O-N-G time.
Update: Doctor says if there is no numbness or weakness he is going to assume it is pregnancy and not my disc. Yeah! Never thought I would be so glad to have a pregnancy pain-in-the-behind experience! 🙂

Hi, I found your blog through some other blog links…
So sorry to hear about your pain. I don’t have back problems, but during pregnancy I did have sciatica. I did some stretching which seemed to help. Good luck.
Pregnancy often causes leg problems. I get pretty bad restless leg syndrom in the second half of mine. Plus I faithfully take extra magnesium to avoid muscle cramps (also helps fend off early contractions).
Hope that’s all it is for you and that you find some relief soon. 🙂
Watching Baby move your tummy is very diverting, isn’t it? The only one who didn’t even want to hear about it was my kid brother- I think he was thinking about alien invader movies when I was telling about his nephew moving in there! 😀 😉
My pregnancy was all in the back. There were days I thought I was never going to be able to move again. To this day I have back issues that I am sure came from carring a 10 pound boy around!
