I’ve got about a dozen different titles I thought about for this post, but now that we will be living in the land of intimidation, censorship and such, I’ve decided against them.
What is there to say? People can celebrate the results of this election, but personally I would weep if I had any tears. We are a bankrupt nation – morally, financially, and spiritually.
I grieve for Caroline and the country in which she will grow up. Thank God, literally, that this is not our true home.
I guess on the bright side I can look forward to my free healthcare and everything else that I’ve been promised. 🙄
To think that this man is going to be the leader of the (formerly) free world makes me want to hurl.
Anyone else need to say anything?

I’ve found the same bright spot as you, Sallie. I am happy that perhaps we’ll get a break from the constant bitter criticism of our leaders. President Bush, Senator McCain, and Governor Palin have each been slandered in the media in shameful ways. I am thankful that in at least a small part, that will come to an end.
You have to find a bright spot somewhere! God, have mercy on our nation.

I wish I could throw up. I would feel so much better.

I woke up with a heavy heart too. I kept thinking what is going to happen to America? I do believe that God has remove his hand from America and will allow American to self destruct. We’ve had it so easy living in America as a Christian without having to pay any price for it. Now we will have to pay a price in some way or form for being Christians. Can we take the heat? Can we stand strong? I think God is calling his true believers everywhere to rise up and to do all they can to evangelize while there is still time. Someday it will be consider hate speech to quote certain Bible verses. I am not pessmistic but realistic that times will be hard for us and our children but God is still sovereign and in charge of everything. It is hard to figure out why this is happening on the one hand and yet see so clearly that this is happening because of America’s downward moral spiral. I am happy that an African American was elected president but sad that it had to be Obama. I would accept Powell or Rice over Obama. Oh well, we will get through this grieving process as we learn to listen and discern what God is saying to us, the body of Christ. Now is the time to get deep into the Word of God and pray for Obama and America.
Thanks so much for using your blog to share your thoughs and letting us share ours too. It’s good to commiserate with like minded believers.

I’m disappointed to be sure, but not in despair. Trying to be in the world and not of it…
My humble prayer and hope is that Obama will become pro-life. With all of Obama’s policy/idea “shifts” during the campaign, I pray that God will shift his thinking on this. Who better than Obama to open America’s eyes to the horrors of abortion, especially when it is a plague to the black community? I think Obama has the charisma and “reasonableness” about him to convince America and it’s liberals to take a fresh look at abortion. Now that would be change I could stand behind.
I know this is far-fetched, but it’s my hope and I can’t help it. Better an outlandish hope I suppose than retching.

I put a link up on my site today for an excellent post election post by author Randy Alcorn. I encourage everyone to go read it. I have told others that I’m not bitter or angry, just really sad.
Susan
Not for the first time, I wished I could go back and edit a comment!
I’ve thought through this some more and though I do still hope in the outlandish idea that Obama will become pro-life, hoping in him to change anything is letting the Church off of the hook. Hoping in McCain to change anything was wrong. It is our responsibility not to hope in presidents or even courts to change the world, but in our Saviour. I think we should keep on keeping on – with more enthusiasm than ever – proclaiming the gospel and the life that is in it. I keep coming back to being in the world and not of it. We vote for what we think will do our country good but we hope only in Him who is worth hoping in.
Thanks for letting me think out loud Sallie. Nothing like doing that on the www for the world to see. 🙂

I am also really disappointed, but I’m not scared… yet. We’ll wait and see what he actually gets accomplished before I become frightened. He’s got a long, tough road ahead of him, and I wonder if his fluff, celebrity popularity will be able to handle the inevitable backlash when he doesn’t come in, wave a magic wand, and fix everything for everybody.
Actually, watching the sychophantic crowds weeping and gushing and falling over last night made me feel like maybe our country is not necessarily trending socialist. Hear me out. Looking at all of them, I had the thought, “There are a lot of people out there who didn’t want to vote for a socialist. They just wanted to be a part of voting in the first black president. They actually don’t give a flying fig what he stands for, as long as he’s black and has a “D” next to his name.” That’s the only real explanation I can see for all the hype. Besides, if you look at the raw numbers, he didn’t win in a landslide. He only got a little over 50% of the popular vote. This country is still deeply divided, and he would do well to remember that little fact.
If you have a chance, go and listen to the Howard Stern interviews he took of the man on the street in Harlem. Apparently, he asked voters there who they were voting for, and when they said, Obama, he then asked them if they were ok that he was pro-life, for keeping troops in Iraq, and had Sarah Palin as a running mate. They were all ok with that. =) Very interesting.
But I do think that there are a lot of Christians who voted for him who need to ask God’s forgiveness for the sin of helping a very pro-abortion president gain his office. Those are the people I am most disappointed and frustrated in. The lies they have swallowed and the choice they have made to do this worry me more than the fact that he is president, honestly…

Wow, I’ve never been quoted before, with boldface type! Thanks, Sallie, for giving us the forum to air our grievances with this election. I’ve a feeling we’ll be venting about the presidency for a long time to come, perhaps even past the 4-year mark. Sigh.

I too have been sickened by the election results. I have been numb today, not wanting to think or hear anything polictical. But, the bottom line for me is…”I’m Proud to be An American.” I’m proud because my Father, brother & husband at different times, loved this country enough to serve in the Army & Navy to keep us free. I’m proud to think that my son-in-love’s parents (from the Philippines) came to this country for a better life & became American citizens. I’m proud that they are Americans not by birth, but by choice. I’m proud because I still believe in what this nation was founded on along with countless others. I’m proud because at least for now, we still are the “land of the free” & the “home of the brave.” I’m proud because my father instilled in me a great love for God, family & country & I can & have passed along to my children. I’m proud because America is the most generous people on earth, giving to help others. My emotions still surface when I say the pledge or sing the National Athem. When I think of our men & women fighting for us even today, my eyes fill with tears. I’m proud because I still hold to the fact that we are “One Nation Under God” – who is in control. Some may say that I’m looking at America through rose colored glasses. I think I’m looking at this nation through red, white & blue glasses. My veins run deep with patriotic blood. May God continue to bless America & help us all to see in the days, weeks & years to come that HE alone has a purpose & plan for this country & our lives. It doesn’t mean that I don’t have many concerns for my children raising their children. But, it does mean that I will continue to be diligent in helping teach my grandchildren to love God first, family & country. I want to see the good in this country – because, it’s still there.

I think what we saw last night in the Chicago, the “rock star worshiping” if you will, is the culmination of the celebritizing (I know, not an actual word) of America. The MTVs, TMZs, and Perez Hiltons of the world have a mighty grip on this nation of young people, and fame and celebrity have become what so many value most. Did anyone catch the clip of the reporter saying he smelled pot in the crowd? It was a Dave Matthews concert, not a presidential election celebration.
And mark my words. BO will appoint Oprah Winfrey to some convoluted government office within the next four years. This woman has wanted a platform to spread her “love yourself first” nonsense and now she’s as good as living in the White House with her new age cronies. Nice job, America.

Sallie –
While I consider you a dear friend (internet-wise), I have to caution you to not despair, as others have. Yes, your candidate was defeated. But it wasn’t his time. The Lord is control, and that is all that matters.
As someone else mentioned, 4 years ago, many of us Dems felt the same way about GW. I remember just crying when he was reelected – I felt that no good could come from an already shaky, war-mongering administration. I cried at the prospect of a possible draft; I cried that people were being forced to conform to one group’s ideas of what is moral, right, and just. But I also realized that it was still their turn, and the American people HAD SPOKEN. Aaron realized this hard lesson the other night. Sure, there are folks who aren’t informed voters. But many of us are! Many of us want a better country for our children, and under the current mode of GOP domination, that wasn’t happening for this country. Just as everyone here differs in parenting philosophies, so do we in political philosophies.
If you really want to make things change, voting for the President is not enough. At all. Vote for your representatives, vote for Senate, vote for all of your leaders! Change doesn’t start at the top – it works its way up from the bottom.
Also, voters, besides exercising their civic duty, can PRAY. Pray that the Lord continues to whisper His words of love and guidance to our new President and his staff. Pray that the Lord continually reminds us that He IS GOD, and that we are not to fret for anything. Pray for our new administration and their families – just because they have different views as some now, does not mean their hearts may not be moved in the future.

Why do you have the following at the top right-hand corner of your blog?
“quiet words
Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands… so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12″
Are you following any of that, Sallie? And this comes from a McCain supporter.

Andrea,
Thanks for your kind words. There is no despair here. I’m grieved and deeply concerned. Anyone who has read all my previous posts regarding my strong reservations about Obama couldn’t really expect me to feel otherwise. While some people may find him inspiring and hopeful, I do not. I find nothing inspiring about him as a person and I find his character and policies questionable. Obviously others felt differently.
For the sake of this country, I sincerely hope I’m wrong. Maybe he will turn out to be a great president. Maybe God will get hold of his heart in a major way. But if I had to bet the farm (so to speak), I wouldn’t bet a penny on him as he currently stands. Sorry, that’s just the way I feel and that’s the way I intuitively perceive things.
Like I said when I wrote a number of months ago that I was confident we were very close to a recession (if not already in one) and that I felt quite strongly we would be headed toward a depression, I would be very glad to be wrong. As I said then, if I am wrong you can come back and tell me so and we’ll all have a mocha or an Earl Grey to celebrate. 😀

Thanks to all the other ladies who left such great comments. I’m sorry I haven’t been able to keep up with responding to them last night and today. 🙂

Could you explain a little more? What do you think I’ve said here that is contrary to this? (Are you a regular reader of my blog? You’ve never left a comment unless this is a new name/email address you used to leave this comment.) And have you read my previous posts about the election?
I ask these things because I’m trying to understand your perspective and why you feel my speaking strongly about my convictions and my perception of this election is contrary to the Scripture at the top of my blog.
Thanks!

Well, in the midst of the turmoil of the election… I have given you an award on my blog.
I don’t hand out many but I think you are a woman who deserves this particular award.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I’m still in shock. This morning we heard a sound bite from Obama’s speech last night to some group – he said that it will take more than 4 years to accomplish his goals. EXCUSE ME? 😡 Didn’t everyone in his posse vote so that we could have change, NOW? That’s what he ran on, and what all his followers are expecting. Or, is this the beginning of his early campaigning for 2012? Not surprising, I guess, but to me I’m shell shocked.
As for Oprah. Her ratings are already down. They started to slide when she came out in support of Obama. Her ratings are still high, but she’s lost a large segment of her audience due to Obama & the latest new age ‘stuff’ along with the constant barrage of her ‘guides’ (Dr. Oz being one) appearing to promote her agenda. I would not be surprised at all (and I expect it to happen, really) if Obama appoints her to some post. She’s very interested in a larger platform of some sort. So, now we wait.
Yeesh! 😥

We conservatives are going to be beating this dead horse for at least four years.
You know, I actually thought today about how much fun it could be. I mean for the past eight years we’ve had to daily listen to negative to downright slanderous comments about Bush (who isn’t a true conservative anyway, but still). Now we can sit back and absolutely nitpick every cotton pickin’ thing that Obama does or says every single day. 365 days x 4 years + 3 transition months = over 1500 days of fun and games. 😆
Oh wait. I forgot. Liberals can only do that to conservatives. Silly me. 😕
David (Sallie's husband)
I guess we’ll just have to sit back and watch as things unfold.
I couldn’t help but chuckle as I read the story about how Obama campaign workers in Indianapolis weren’t getting paid the whole amount they were promised. I told Sallie, “obviously Obama is spreading the wealth, already”. 😆
Amie
AFA getting to pick on Obama…..they were already picking on him on NPR today, of all places.
AFA being suprised that this happened, and decidedly so, I am not…….we (as a whole) are a fickle nation……a lot of people are on the rockstar band wagon, but the real change will be when they jump off…….and find some other thing to jump on. That is a sad part of all of this.

Sallie –
Thank you for that pleasant reminder. I now remember how much fun we had during the Clinton years! Whooooo Hoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I discoverd your blog at mod girl. I was drawn to the name of your blog. I love the scripture that you base you title on. I share your in your grief over the condition of this country, but I also share in your joy that this is not our true home.
I look forward to visiting again!
God bless,

It’s interesting what we know about McCain now all these years later. If we were told the truth via the Q drops, McCain was executed for treason.
My post barely touches on it. There is lots of information out there that lends credence to this understanding of how he died.
