We are surrounded by change we cannot control. Whether it is the seasons, our children, our bodies, or the culture, everything around us is constantly changing. Learning how to thoughtfully and prayerfully adapt and deal with those changes is an important part of the Christian life.
Like many of you, I’m going through a season of adjusting to things I can’t control. Whether I believe they are good changes or bad changes, they are still changes. As people living at this point in time, we are forced to adjust to changes much more rapidly than is honestly good for us. The psychological and emotional toll it is taking on each of us is a real thing.
Instead of allowing myself to be frustrated, I’m choosing to adapt and find the joy in the midst of it. Sometimes the choice to find joy is a daily or even hourly decision. I cannot control most of what is going on around me. But I can control my attitude before God, how I speak of these things in front of my family, and how I respond to them publicly when I write here on my blog.
We must choose each day. We can bring peace, understanding, joy, beauty, and faith to our homes or we can choose a lesser and more destructive path. It really is a daily choice, guided by God’s Word and time in prayer.
Do not underestimate the magnitude of the spiritual battle raging around you and attempting to infiltrate your home. Put on the armor of God.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore take up the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground, and having done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness arrayed,
and with your feet fitted with the readiness of the gospel of peace.
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:10-17
Every single day deliberately bring peace, understanding, joy, beauty, and faith to your home and your loved ones.
You truly do have the choice.
