As I wrote in Embracing the Simplicity of Homemaking, I believe every woman is a homemaker. If you are a woman and you have a place to live, you are making a home. It might be just for you or it might be for many people, but you are a homemaker.

Homemakers need encouragement as they go through their responsibilities each day and so I’ve assembled this collection of encouraging quotes for Christian homemakers. I hope you will write a few down to put around your home and encourage you each day.

Quotes About Home

The tasks connected with the home are the fundamental tasks of humanity.
Theodore Roosevelt

If a home doesn’t make sense, nothing does.
Henrietta Ripperger

A home without books is a body without soul.
Cicero

Peace – that was the other name for home.
Kathleen Norris

Where could one settle more pleasantly than in one’s home?
Cicero

If this world affords true happiness, it is to be found in a home where love and confidence increase with the years, where the necessities of life come without severe strain, where luxuries enter only after their cost has been carefully considered.
A. Edward Newton

The Holy Scriptures are our letters from home.
St. Augustine

Quotes About Christianity

The distinction between Christianity and all other systems of religion consists largely in this, that in these others men are found seeking after God, while Christianity is God seeking after men.
Thomas Arnold

To be a witness means to live in such a way that one’s life would not make sense if God did not exist.
Madeline L’Engle

Let it not be imagined that the life of a good Christian must be a life of melancholy and gloominess; for he only resigns some pleasures to enjoy others infinitely better.
Blaise Pascal

The soul of the Christian religion is reverence.
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

There is nothing so refreshing as to watch a new Christian before he has heard too many sermons and watched too many Christians.
A.W. Tozer

Christianity can be condensed into four words: admit, submit, commit, and transmit.
Samuel Wilberforce

Today Jesus Christ is being dispatched as the Figurehead of a Religion, a mere example. He is that, but he is infinitely more; He is salvation itself, He is the Gospel of God.
Oswald Chambers

Quotes About Waiting

The deepest spiritual lessons are not learned by His letting us have our way in the end, but by His making us wait, bearing with us in love and patience until we are able honestly to pray what He taught His disciples to pray: Thy will be done.
Elisabeth Elliot, Passion and Purity

God’s timing is not ours. He will reveal himself – though not necessarily when and where we may expect.
Charles H. Spurgeon

Waiting is not wasted time. Realize that God is preparing his resources and strengthening you as well. C.H.P.
Streams in the Desert

When ours are interrupted, his are not. His plans are proceeding exactly as scheduled, moving us always (including those minutes or hours or years which seem most useless or wasted or unendurable) “toward the goal of true maturity” (Rom 12:2 JBP).
Elisabeth Elliot

God often gives in one brief moment that which he has for a long time denied.
Thomas à Kempis

We would actually accomplish more if we attempted less, and spent more time in quiet waiting on God.
Streams in the Desert

He who waits on God never waits too long.
Chuck Wagner

Quotes About The Bible

A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education.
Theodore Roosevelt

It ain’t the parts of the Bible that I ca’t understand that bother me; it is the parts that I do understand.
Mark Twain

If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity.
Daniel Webster

In 25 years the Bible will be a forgotten book.
Robert Ingersoll (who died in 1899)

The vigor of our spiritual life will be in exact proportion to the place held by the Bible in our life and thoughts.
George Mueller

Some read the Bible to learn and some read the Bible to hear from heaven.
Andrew Murray

Quotes About God

The great thing, and the only thing, is to adore and praise God.
Thomas Merton

It is not after we were reconciled by the blood of his Son that God began to love us, but before the foundation of the world.
John Calvin

Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life’s problems fall into place of their own accord.
J. I. Packer

God is continually drawing us to himself in everything we experience.
Gerard Hughes

Man, made in the image of God, has a purpose – to be in relationship to God, who is there. Man forgets his purpose and thus he forgets who he is and what life means.
Francis Schaeffer

Here lies the tremendous mystery – that God should be all-powerful, yet refuse to coerce. He summons us to cooperation. We are honored in being given the opportunity to participate in his good deeds. Remember how He asked for help in performing his miracles: Fill the waterpots, stretch out your hand, distribute the loaves.
Elisabeth Elliot

Whence comes this idea that if what we are doing is fun, it can’t be God’s will? The God who made giraffes, a baby’s fingernails, a puppy’s tail, a crooknecked squash, the bobwhite’s call, and a young girl’s giggle, has a sense of humor. Make no mistake about that.
Catherine Marshall

To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God.
William Temple

Quotes About Love

The greatest happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved – loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves.
Victor Hugo

We ought not to be weary of doing little things for the love of God, who regards not the greatness of the work, but the love with which it is performed.
Brother Lawrence

A man and woman in love have a gift of sight not granted to other people.
“The Enchanted Cottage”

It is not that we keep His commandments first, and that then He loves; but that He loves us, and then we keep His commandments. This is that grace, which is revealed to the humble, but hidden from the proud.
St. Augustine

Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get – only with what you are expecting to give – which is everything.
Katherine Hepburn

The secret of Christian quietness is not indifference, but the knowledge that God is my Father, He loves me, I shall never think of anything He will forget, and worry becomes an impossibility.
Oswald Chambers

It is not after we were reconciled by the blood of his Son that God began to love us, but before the foundation of the world.
John Calvin

Give a little love to a child, and you get a great deal back.
John Ruskin

When I stand before the throne
Dressed in beauty not my own,
When I see thee as Thou art,
Love Thee with unsinning heart,
Then, Lord, shall I fully know
Not till then, how much I owe.
R. M. McCheyne

Quotes About God With Us

If God be our God, He will give us peace in trouble. When there is a storm without, He will make peace within. The world can create trouble in peace, but God can create peace in trouble.
Thomas Watson

We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts.
A. W. Tozer

There are no words to express the abyss between isolation and having one ally. It may be conceded to the mathematician that four is twice two. But two is not twice one; two is two thousand times one.
G. K. Chesterton

Quotes About Worship

Worship is the highest and noblest activity of which man, by the grace of God, is capable.
John Stott

The perfect church service would be one we were almost unaware of; our attention would have been on God.
C. S. Lewis

The great thing, and the only thing, is to adore and praise God.
Thomas Merton

We don’t seem to want to worship a God who’s too big, too authoritative. We seem more comfortable with a deity who’s more manageable.
Mark Finley

If there is one characteristic more than others that contemporary public worship needs to recapture it is this awe before the surpassingly great and gracious God.
Henry Sloane Coffin

A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.
C. S. Lewis

To worship God “in the spirit” is not to worship Him sincerely, in the remote part of our nature; but to worship Him by the power of the Spirit He gives to us.
Oswald Chambers

It is only when men begin to worship that they begin to grow.
Calvin Coolidge

And what greater calamity can fall upon a nation than the loss of worship.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Quotes About Difficult Times

The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem.
Theodore Rubin

Perhaps God brings us to the end of our resources so we can discover the vastness of His.
Neil Anderson

God is looking for those with whom He can do the impossible– what a pity that we plan only the things that we can do by ourselves.
A. W. Tozer

Faith is a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. It is so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times.
Martin Luther

The secret of Christian quietness is not indifference, but the knowledge that God is my Father, He loves me, I shall never think of anything He will forget, and worry becomes an impossibility.
Oswald Chambers

Quotes That Point Us To God

We turn to God for help when our foundations are shaking only to learn that it is God shaking them.
Charles West

The secret of Christian quietness is not indifference, but the knowledge that God is my Father, He loves me, I shall never think of anything He will forget, and worry becomes an impossibility.
Oswald Chambers

God is God. Because He is God, He is worthy of my trust and obedience. I will find rest nowhere but in His holy will, a will that is unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what He is up to.
Elisabeth Elliot

Even when we cannot see the why and wherefore of God’s dealings, we know that there is love in and behind them, and so we can rejoice always.
J. I. Packer

When God is about to do something great, he starts with a difficulty. When he is about to do something truly magnificent, he starts with an impossibility.
Armin Gesswein

It’s a good thing to have all the props pulled out from under us occasionally. It gives us some sense of what is rock under our feet, and what is sand.
Madeleine L’Engle

A firm faith in the universal providence of God is the solution of all earthly troubles.
B. B. Warfield

Christ is a substitute for everything, but nothing is a substitute for Christ.
H.A. Ironside

God takes us into deep waters, not to drown us but to cleanse us.
Author Unknown

Trials are not enemies of faith but are opportunities to prove God’s faithfulness.
Author Unknown

Christians ought not to be smothered in fear. There is a spiritual readiness, where we return to having the peace of God stand guard over our hearts and minds. What an incredible witness it is to a lost and fearful society when the Christian acts like a child of God, living under the loving sovereignty of the Heavenly Father. The Christian needs to walk in peace, so no matter what happens they will be able to bear witness to a watching world.
Henry Blackaby

Quotes About Anxiety and Peace

How much have cost us the evils that never happened!
Thomas Jefferson

Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
Proverbs 12:25 (ESV)

Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength.
C. H. Spurgeon

…casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
I Peter 5:7 (ESV)

…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV)

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)

Our whole life is taken up with anxiety for personal security, with preparations for living, so that we really never live at all.
Leo Tolstoy

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Matthew 6:25-34 (ESV)

Quotes About The Power Of God

The One who made the world and who upholds all things by the word of His power, is the One who keeps His saints.
Oswald Chambers

It is he who made the earth by his power, who established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding stretched out the heavens.
Jeremiah 51:15 (ESV)

The Bible says that God created the world “by the breath of His mouth.” Meditate for a moment on the word ‘creation,’ and see what a supernatural word it is. No philosopher ever thought of it, no expounder of natural history every imagined such a word. We can understand ‘evolution’ and ’emanation,’ but we simply do not know what ‘creation’ means. There is only one Being Who knows, and that is God Himself, and the Bible says that God created the heavens and the earth.
Oswald Chambers

God will never have more power than He has now; if He could have, He would cease to be God.
Oswald Chambers

Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.
Revelation 4:11 (ESV)

I Sing the Mighty Power of God
I sing the mighty power of God, that made the mountains rise,
That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
The moon shines full at God’s command, and all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord, who filled the earth with food,
Who formed the creatures through the Word, and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, wher’er I turn my eye,
If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky.

There’s not a plant or flower below, but makes Thy glories known,
And clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from Thy throne;
While all that borrows life from Thee is ever in Thy care;
And everywhere that we can be, Thou, God art present there.

Quotes About Faith

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
Hebrews 11:1 (ESV)

God delights to increase the faith of his children. We ought, instead of wanting no trials before victory, no exercise for patience, to be willing to take them from God’s hands as a means. Trials, obstacles, difficulties, and sometimes defeats, are the very food of faith.
George Mueller

Faith is seeing the invisible, but not the nonexistent.
A. W. Tozer

When a person’s faith seems to collapse without warning, one can be sure it has been the result of inner conflicts–the termites of disobedience.
Quinton J. Everest

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Romans 10:17 (ESV)

Faith stands in the midst of suffering and sees glory.
Elisabeth Elliot

Faith expects from God what is beyond all expectation.
Andrew Murray

The conception of faith given in the New Testament is that it must embrace the whole man. Faith is not a faculty, it is the whole man rightly related to God by the power of the Spirit of Jesus. We are apt to apply faith to certain domains of our life only – we have faith in God when we ask Him to save us, or ask Him for the Holy Spirit, but we trust something other than God in the actual details of our lives.
Oswald Chambers

The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith; and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety.
George Mueller

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 (ESV)

Faith is not the belief that God will do what you want. Faith is the belief that God will do what is right.
Max Lucado

If ours is an examined faith, we should be unafraid to doubt….There is no believing without some doubting, and believing is all the stronger for understanding and resolving doubt.
Os Guinness

Faith is not belief without proof, but trust without reservations.
Elton Trueblood

When I cannot enjoy the faith of assurance, I live by the faith of adherence.
Matthew Henry

To be able to state explicitly in words what you know by faith is an impossibility; if you can state it in words, it is not faith.
Oswald Chambers
