A few of my favorite books growing up were Lois Lenski chapter books. Lenski was a prolific writer and I read many of her books over the years. She has such a distinctive approach both in terms of her writing style as well as her illustrations.
Two of my favorite children’s novels were Strawberry Girl and Shoo-Fly Girl.
I haven’t read either one in ages and need to do so again. I know I have a copy of Strawberry Girl, but I will need to find a copy of Shoo-Fly Girl. (If you are interested in reading more about Lois Lenski’s chapter books, check out the section about her on my post 100 Wholesome Books for Girls and Tweens.)

Lois Lenski Small Books
I found some Lois Lenski picture books for Caroline at the library so we’ve been enjoying these. They are cute, simple little books. I especially appreciated that the Small family went to church on Sunday in a church that Caroline could relate to. The Small books include:
Papa SmallCowboy Small
Policeman Small
Lois Lenski Little Books
There are also several with the word “Little” in the title. The Little books include:
The Little FarmThe Little Sailboat
The Little Airplane
The Little Auto
The Little Train
The Little Fire Engine
We’ve been enjoying Papa Small, The Little Farm, The Little Sailboat, and The Little Airplane. Once my requested queue at the library clears out (ahem), I plan on ordering more of them to enjoy with Caroline.
