In Matthew 10:16, Jesus said this to his disciples: “Behold, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” (BSB)

We’re called to be as shrewd as serpents and as gentle as doves. Most Christian women seem to focus in on the dove part because it is easier to understand. Everyone can see how acceptable it is to be a dove, right?

I’d like to suggest that we also spend a bit more time focusing on the serpent part. We are called to be shrewd. What is shrewd? Dictionary.com gives these words as definitions and synonyms:

  • astute or sharp in practical matters
  • quick
  • discerning
  • keen
  • discriminating
  • intelligent

It’s time Christian women start acting in a shrewd manner in terms of how they interact with the culture. I address this in a short, five minute video.
