Good evening, Sallie. The very day I subscribed to your Truth & Beauty Society, I had completed the reading of a chapter in a book by John Eldredge entitled “Drinking Beauty” from his book, Get Your Life Back. He writes that not only did God fill our lives with oxygen and water which are important for human beings to sustain life, but he also writes that “with the same generosity and care, God also filled the world with a renewable supply of something our souls need daily – beauty.” He continues to say that our world is saturated with breathtaking beauty and that “we are absolutely swimming in it.” He goes on to list a series of action verbs to attribute to beauty. Beauty comforts, heals, rescues, restores, revives, and renews. He further states “Beauty is such a gentle grace. Like God, it rarely shouts, rarely intrudes. Rather it woos, soothes, invites; it romances, and caresses.” He quotes a little book by Elaine Scarry, On Beauty and Being Just who claims beauty is life-saving. He includes several amazing quotes from her book. All of this underlines, underscores, highlights, and capitalizes your desire to develop language for us to explain/recognize beauty and elevate our capacity to discuss with others what is and what isn’t beauty. I applaud your endeavors and as always thank you for all you do.

Hi Melinda,
Thank you for sharing those lovely thoughts. I agree that we are surrounded by God provided beauty all of the time. We simply have to take the time to notice it. Those action verbs are also interesting.
I’m looking forward to exploring all of these ideas in the group!

Hi Melinda,
I started a section in the forum with PDFs of all the newsletters. It’s right at the top so everyone will see it. Let me know if you are still having problems receiving them.
