Through my genealogy research that I mentioned before I became online friends with a woman in Arizona. We’ve exchanged information as we’ve found it. This afternoon she sent me the most amazing information that pushes our search back another four generations to 1598 in Germany! I told David it is interesting that this branch of my family goes back to Germany since I was interested in German and took two years in college. Must be in the genes.
But what was really neat is to discover that one of my ancestors was indeed a soldier of the American Revolution and was part of General George Washington’s guard known as Washington’s Life Guard. According to Wikipedia:
The Commander-in-Chief’s Guard, commonly known as Washington’s Life Guard, was a unit of the Continental Army that protected George Washington during the American Revolutionary War. Formed in 1776, the Guard was with General Washington in all of his battles. It was disbanded in 1783 at the end of the war.
As a total history geek, this is SO COOL!
That’s so neat! As a member of the DAR, welcome to the club!My aunt did our genealogy and printed a book with the lineage. She really enjoyed it and studied it for decades. She managed to trace the family back to 1410. (They were Swiss. Swiss keep good records) Amazing!

I know! I love history so to know one of my however many great grandfathers was with General Washington at all his battles… WOW! I will have to look into the DAR. I’ve always thought it would be very neat to be eligible, but haven’t seriously researched enough to get it done. 😀
