Why does he present this as one or the other?
The wife should support her husband’s calling. The husband should support his wife’s calling.
The husband isn’t the only one God gives a worthy mission. He gives a worthy mission to the wife as well.
For both of them, their primary mission revolves around being a godly spouse and parent. The most worthy mission is not “out there” away from home for either of them.
A wife-centered marriage is wrong.
So is a husband-centered marriage.
The man’s mission is not the most important thing in a marriage or family. It is one part of a marriage and family.
To elevate it to the point that the wife is supposed to “help him pursue it with abandon” sends the wrong message.
And just to get ahead of the game… No, a daughter’s primary calling in life is not to support her father’s mission until she has a husband.
