Nine years ago today, my then beau, David, and I took a daytrip from Grand Rapids to Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We had a lovely day, driving through Petoskey and across the Mackinac Bridge. We had lunch in the little town of Paradise in the U.P. and then made our way to Tahquamenon Falls. I knew that David was going to propose to me that day, but he made me wait all day until we got to Whitefish Point in the late afternoon! There on the vast shore of Lake Superior he asked me to be his wife and I happily agreed.
David will tell that one of his favorite stories about me is from that day. I think we were about halfway home, probably around Petoskey, and it was dark. All of the sudden I turned on the little light under the rearview mirror and said, “I haven’t looked at my ring in a couple hours!” For a woman who had waited a long time for an engagement ring, it was a happy event to be able to turn on the light and be able to gaze at the beautiful ring my love had provided for me.
So Happy Engagement Anniversary, David! I love you more and more each year!
