John Piper, Mark Driscoll, & Matt Chandler Critique Doug Wilson | Speaking of Trajectory and Irony

I happened across this today. It’s from 13 years ago. If you want the definition of irony, this is it in a brief video.

Skimming the comments, here’s a few that stood out to me.

Ben Lambert:

Chandler is a CRT apologist, who apologizes for being white. Piper is an emotionalist, who has naturally swung left openly over the last few years. Driscoll is not qualified to even be a pastor anymore. Not to mention he supposedly has visions of people in his congregation and then exposes them in front of everyone. These three men are complete hacks compared to Doug Wilson. They’ve all shifted in their theology in huge ways. Whereas Doug Wilson has been pretty consistently standing up for Gods word unapologetically his entire life.

Alright, Squinky!:

Here we are in 2021. It’s ironic that Driscoll and Chandler, sitting to either side of Piper, smug in their assurance that they’re right, would both go off the deep end in different ways while Wilson did not. Chandler is now alienating his massive congregation in Texas by preaching full on racism and Marxist ideology, leaving out the gospel entirely. The Driscoll saga has been rehashed ad infinitum.

Colin A:

The irony is that 13 years later, Doug Wilson has shown himself to be more faithful than all three men on that stage.

Phil GM:

It’s so ironic that he says this in between two guys that have gone apostate, or least completely compromised theologically.

FBC Freeport:

The irony of these three up there critiquing Wilson (ie. calling his people “dumb”) is that Chandler is woke, Driscoll’s ministry imploded & Piper’s sons both off the rails (to varying degrees, including atheist.) Meanwhile, Wlson has been building and growing an incredible ministry for 40+ years that includes church planting, education, university, seminary, printing press, etc. The vast fruit of his faithful ministry is coming into full-bloom, and it’s incredible.

There is no theologian or Christian leader I agree with all the time. They all make mistakes and that includes Doug Wilson. But if you are talking about the trajectory of someone’s life, Wilson has done far more to advance the Gospel and lead people to maturity in Christ than these three combined. How many lives have been shipwrecked by Driscoll and Chandler?

Fascinating.

It’s all about finishing well. Remaining faithful in difficult times. The three in this video have struggled mightily with that. Doug Wilson appears to have been made stronger by the storms we currently face and was one of the few who remained level-headed (along with John MacArthur) during this insanity of the lockdowns.

A Christian Nation

"The real object of the first amendment was not to countenance, much less to advance, Mahometanism, or Judaism, or infidelity, by prostrating Christianity; but to exclude all rivalry among christian sects, and to prevent any national ecclesiastical establishment, which should give to a hierarchy the exclusive patronage of the national government."

Joseph Story (Associate Justice of the Supreme Court), Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States (1833), § 1871.

countenance: To favor; to encourage by opinion or words; To encourage; to appear in defense (Websters Dictionary 1828)
