Since I haven’t felt like doing diddlysquat lately, I’ve had some time to think while sacked out on the couch. Here are some things I’ve been pondering.
How does God put the soul of a baby in the baby while it is in the mother’s womb?
Has is struck anyone else how weird it is to have another human being living in your body and you don’t know the first thing about him/her? Or whether it IS a him or a her?
Seeing the first shoots of the spring bulbs coming up gives such hope that spring WILL come!
The quickest way to shake up your readership numbers is to write something polarizing. You’ll add new (positive) commenters while at the same time seeing your Bloglines subscriber numbers drop.
When a baby is smaller than a BB and its tiny little heart starts beating, how does that heart get turned “on”?

Wait until the first time the baby kicks your bladder, or gets a foot caught under your ribcage and it hurts so much that for a few minutes you forget you are pregnant and call the doctor, sure you are having a heart attack, then you feel REALLY dumb when they point out that it’s probably your baby’s foot.
What, that doesn’t happen to everyone?
Point being, it makes you think how *weird* it is to be sharing your organs with another person.
Good to hear from you, Sallie!
I know what you mean! Once when I was expecting one of my babies (I think the 5th of 8) I said something to my sister like this: “How do *I* know what I’m carrying!? For all I know, it could be a baby elephant!”
She thought that was pretty weird.
But even after giving birth to 4 human babies, it still (at 4 or 5 or more months along) felt like I couldn’t even IMAGINE that there could be a real BABY in there!
Blessings to you ALL. Susan
Hi Sallie,
Let me be the last (though not in spirit) to wish you congratulations. I know you will be a wonderful mother. I think it’s great that you are journaling what you are experiencing–I wish I had written more during my pregnancies–it gets even more exciting when you can literally feel that life within you.
I’m so glad to know that I’m not the only one who has thought about how odd it is (though not really odd) to carry another life in your body! Of course I’m not married yet, and definitely have never been pregnant, but I do think of the wonder that is pregnancy and young life.
I still look at my little ones and am in awe that tecnically *I* made them. All I did was (like you) sit around a lot, feel sick, and try to eat properly (Just wait till the second trim. comes and you faint if you didn’t eat enough protein at supper the night before!). I sure can’t take credit for the miracle of a new, unique, and complete human being; we mothers just cooperate with God as HE does it all!
Another cool thing is with an ultrasound you can see the bones and internal organs of a person you have never met. Mind blowing.
Are you working on any of those craft projects you talked about last year? When I was pregnant over the winter I did a bunch of knitting so I could feel productive while sitting like a lump. 🙂
Pregnancy and childbirth really “sealed the deal” for me as far as knowing there was an ALMIGHTY God out there. I had the same questions as you, and in the end, no one could explain it to me, it just HAD to be a God-thing!
Pregnancy is a miracle. Enjoy it 🙂
Sallie,
I can remember all those things you are thinking and then some. The most vivid memory, however, is in the last few weeks of my usually-two-weeks-past-due-date state. I would get that same feeling the guy has when he has built a boat in the basement and doesn’t know how he will ever get it out! My last baby was 10 lbs. 14 oz so it did seem like a boat, the Queen Mary as I recall!
I am praying that you will be feeling super by the time lovely spring weather gets here and you can enjoy the time outside…hang in there and eat ice cream!
I’m glad to see that you’ve joined us crazy bunch of book reviewers with Mind & Media. You’ll have plenty of great books to pick and choose from as you coast through your pregnancy. I’m also reading How to Be Your Own Publicist. I’ll look forward to reading your review!
I’ve wondered this myself, as Gen 2:7 says “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”
I’m chuckling, clucking and eating my heart out all at the same time.
Chuckling because we all have thoughts of “how on earth can God do this creating a baby thing from two bits of carbon-based matter?” We are so limited in our thinking sometimes!
Clucking because I didn’t see one single bit of “polarizing” at all in that post.
Eating my heart out because it’s such a precious nine months! I’ll never have it again, but do remember so many thoughts and feelings. Enjoy every second, even the uncomfortable ones…like bladders being kicked, heart burn, itchy belly, etc., etc., etc.
