Ok, so that’s not exactly the correct order in the quote, but first was the bad part of my day and then the good part.
On the down side, I had my glucose tolerance test this morning and I failed. Now I have to take the three hour test. YUCK. Drinking that stuff once was bad enough. Now I have to drink twice as much after fasting for twelve hours and then sit for three hours. Hopefully I don’t pass out. I don’t like to miss my meals! LOL!
But, after the doctor’s appointment things improved. We bought Peanut’s furniture! We found a set we liked at Target so we were able to get the bed, changing table and mattress today. We had to drive to a neighboring city in the next county to get the bed, but it was time well spent to know that we have it and that is done. Whew! That’s a HUGE cross off on the to do list! So here is the crib and here is the changing table. (Peanut says thank you, Grandpa and Grandma S., for buying her such nice furniture!)

I empathise with you here, I remember taking them too during my pregnancies, they really should invent nicer tasting stuff…
Sorry to hear that you failed the one-hour. I’ve had GD now for two pregnancies, so BTDT! As I am a GD, I did almost pass out during the three-hour test. I had to use the recliner in the lab… I just wanted to mention that in case you have a similar reaction. Hopefully you can pass this three-hour one and not have to deal with the GD stuff. But if not, I’d be glad to answer any questions or tell you about my experiences or what’s helped me. Sorry… don’t want to jump ahead there! I have a friend who failed the one-hour, but passed the three… so keep us posted. I’ll be praying.
I’m sorry. I’ve failed several times and later passed the 3 hour. It’s very common to PASS the 3 hour after failing the one hour. (like 85% of women)
You SHOULD DEFINITELY PUSH carbs for 3 days prior to the test. My midwife says it, Dr. Brewer says it… Also eat veggies, protein and all, but DO eat a LOT of carb at EACH MEAL prior to the test. This helps you store glycogen or something like that to help prepare you for a more accurate test result.

Susan – Are there any specific kinds of carbs to push? I read on one website that I should eat normally but have an extra slice of bread at each meal the three days beforehand. Is this what you are talking about?
Hi. The exact diet sheet I was given in 3 (I think) pregnancies said:
breakfast:
1 8 oz. cup orange or grapefruit juice
1 c. cold cereal or 3/4 c. hot cereal
2 slices toast (white or whole grain)
1 egg (made any way)
butter or margarine as desired
2 Tablespoons jelly or jam
2 teaspoons or more sugar
1 cup milk (any type)
tea – coffee – sugar – cream (as desired)
lunch:
1 8 oz. cup juice (apple, grape, pineapple, apricot nectar)
sandwich (2 slices any type bread, meat or cheese or fish, butter or margarine or mayonnaise, lettuce, or mustard)
1 cup milk (any kind)
1/2 cup jello or 1/2 cup ice cream
tea – coffee – sugar – cream (as desired)
dinner serving meat or poultry or fish (prepared any way) (as desired)
1 large potato or 1 cup rice, noodles, macaroni or spaghetti
vegetables (raw or cooked – as desired)
1 slice bread or roll (white or whole grain)
1 cup milk (any type)
butter or margarine as desired
large dish canned fruit with juice
tea – coffee – sugar – cream (as desired)
Eat this diet 3 days prior to testing. “No food after midnight prior to morning of testing.”
It was a bit fun to eat what felt like some slightly “naughty” foods for a few days. 🙂 But I know it’s unnerving. I really dislike that test, but it seems to be a reality for current pregnant women.

Hi Sallie,
My midwife isn’t going to give me the drink, she just wants me to eat very specifically in the morning before we do the test. 1 egg, 1 piece of whole-grain toast, 1/2 cup oj, and whatever else I want (there may be one thing on the list I am forgetting). It seems like a much more reasonable way to do things (but then again, I’m one of those natural-is-the-way-I-live-therefore-natural-is-the-way-I-birth gals).
Thanks, ladies, for your insights. I went ahead and posted a whole new post about this topic rather than responding here. Plus, I had way too much to say in just a comment box! LOL!
