Is he wrong?
If you find yourself conflicted, ask yourself if this was about any other people group if you would answer the same way. Chinese? Japanese? Peruvians? Russians?
My history isn't just American. It's also Swedish, English, Dutch, etc. Caroline is fascinated by the Romans. I told her the other day that given we have English DNA and the Romans were in England for some time, it's possible her interest arises from that many years ago. It put a completely different spin on thinking about her heritage and ancestors.
