Our 25th Wedding Anniversary

Today is our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We are so blessed. ♥

Many people told us that our ceremony was the happiest wedding they had ever been to.




The way we met was so unusual at the time, The Grand Rapids Press did a story about us. You can read it below.

      Hi Mary,

      When we met on AOL, no one knew anyone who had met someone online and gotten married. There were a few stories in the news about people who met someone online and ran away from their marriage. That was it.

      In fact, when David and I met in person the first time at a restaurant we had not even exchanged photos. We had only corresponded by email and chatted on AOL a bit. It’s something that is hard for younger people to understand today.

      The movie “You’ve Got Mail” really sums up that incredibly brief time in the span of history where that was possible.

    We had our 50th anniversary last June – how quickly the time has gone. We’ve been in full-time ministry 50 years this month! God has blessed us much.

    Happy Belated Anniversary, David and Sallie! I love your story too! I was 28, and my husband, Tim, was 31 when we were married, and we had similar standards (for lack of a better term) when we were looking for someone to spend the rest of our lives with. Your wedding story truly made my day. Thank you for sharing it.

    What a wonderful story! Very similar to ours a “generation” earlier. In June 1987 I answered an ad in the personal section of the classifieds in the morning newspaper. I was actually looking for examples of wording to use for my own ad; the Spirit prompted me to answer “that one.” I gave my work phone number, he called, we spoke briefly, then he said if I wanted to talk more I could call him after work. I did, he asked me out, we went out for dinner, and the rest, as they say, is history. We got married one year later 25 June 1988. We have five grown children, and two and a half (due in June) grandchildren, and another of our sons getting married this August. When we tell our story people are often incredulous that we took such risks. But we both felt led by the Lord; there was no other way our paths would have crossed. He was a 30 year old career Marine; I was a 29 year old executive assistant, and part time student. Congrats on your anniversary and thanks for sharing your story.
