I listened to this.  It was really good and floors me as to how this has bulldozed into the church.  Is the Myers Briggs a part of this Enneagram?  Are Spiritual Gift tests a part of this as well?

When I first heard about the enneagram (from a Christian online source), I had a tingly spidey-sense that it was strange hearing that it could be used in Christian circles. I got a couple of the books this presenter talked about and read them. I took the tests and it really worked! 😉 It was fun and seemed to ring true, both for myself and my daughter. I got really interested in it and followed some Christian enneagram posters on Instagram. Even listening to these ladies, I was thinking, "Well, I'm not going to base my life on this or use it as scripture, but it was fun ... and it was TRUE!" Argh. What they said about that type of thinking really hit home. Sigh. I should have listened to that little voice when I first heard about it!

Thanks for sharing. I was just thinking today that I had not seen any instagram posts about the enneagram lately. Perhaps a "glitch" in the system unfollowed me from those posts.

Myers-Briggs is something completely different from the Enneagram. However, I think an argument can be made that personality typing is unnecessary to even unhelpful for believers. There are some Christians who would call it flat out wrong.

I'm trying to put together a coherent argument myself regarding this. I have several posts on my site about personality types and I am strongly contemplating taking them off my site for a variety of reasons. I haven't had time to sit down and put together a thoughtful post about it yet.

What are your thoughts?

A Providential glitch. ???? 

I think I became aware of the Ennegram a few years ago (?) when I received copies of books to review from IVP (InterVarsity Press). I looked at the books (book?) and something simply felt wrong about them.

It was one of the many things that made me really start questioning IVP and what they were choosing to publish.

The Ennegram has never held any attraction to me even though I found Myers-Briggs intriguing. I also think it was due to the people I saw online who were promoting the Ennegram. By that point I was seriously questioning their spiritual discernment so the fact that they were captivated by this new thing made me highly suspect.

Probably not a bad idea to remove them from the site.  I know the Myers Briggs initially helped solidify in my mind some of who I am, but I also am not at the same place as I was then spiritually and who I am as a person.  I think they help to find out a little of who you are, but in the large scheme of things, it is really who we are in Christ and who He made us to be.  Part of discovering who we are is spending time with Jesus in scripture and insightful input from those we trust.  Part of discovering our the gifts the Lord gave us is in service to others and where God has placed us at that time.  I believe this takes some being in tune with the Holy Spirit and listening to His guidance in our lives which isn't always a simple process.

I also think of Psalm 139 when I think of who God made me to be.  It is important to look at scripture and find out who we are in Christ as a basis.

Anyway, my initial thoughts for you on this subject.  Hope this helps!

I've been trying to get back to removing all the personality typing content from my website and looked up this post in the forums because I knew I had shared information about it here. It's not as easy as just deleting a few posts because there are so many interconnecting links and such.

I'm going to watch this video again. If anything it will ring even more true now than it did in early October given all we've watched develop since then.
